'13 AL LB Jonathan Walton

Last weekend is going to be looked at as a big failure I am afraid. Not sure what went wrong there

Not sure I agree with that. We got a committment from Quinn, made huge strides with Ford, made Kondolo's top 2, and made a positive impression on North.

When its all said and done the visitors last weekend appear to have much less of a chance to be vols than the visitors this weekend.

Who did you want us to bring in? Charlie High and Zach Barnes? At this point, the success rate for landing a commitment from an uncommitted or currently committed player is pretty low. Just don't understand your statement.

There were also more visitors that we had a realistic chance with this weekend than last weekend. Players like Walton and Grace were always a long shot to be vols.

Last week failed to get Carr to shut his recruitment down. Grace is a no go. This thread is over it appears. The qb from florida didnt happen. north doesnt seem to be done like somebody quoted in this post said it would be. Just not a great weekend.

You could also say we made solid strides at keeping Carr committed, got M.North and family solidly interested and got into Jonathan Ford's ear about UT.

Ultimately you really won't be able to tell until NSD because you have to know where these guys are going, but as far as COULD it be a bad weekend? Certainly if we don't get any of those 3.

I get the success part but we have PT here too. How many lbs SC taking this year?

Have 2 currently committed and by all accounts coaches are looking to land 2 more. Definitely an opportunity for any of them to come right in and compete for a starting job and playing time. Along with the 4 graduating, the top returning LB on the depth chart(will be a RS soph) tore his ACL in bowl practices and will be out until the fall.

Yep. Good post. Remember my first post said I think that weekend is going to be viewed as a big failure. Not saying its a failure yet

All we can do is hope. If we end up with just North out of that weekend though I will still consider it a moderate success.

Let's not bash Charlie High... He may not be an SEC quarterback but he was still one hell of a high school quarterback who broke national records. I for one still think he is an excellent backup quarterback plan

I know one thing, we did get a commitment from a monster TE prospect. That weekend wasn't completely fruitless. :)

South Carolina needs another linebacker or two in this recruiting class and the staff hosted one of its big targets at that position this weekend.

Linebacker Jonathan Walton (Daphne, Ala./Bayside Academy) took his official visit to South Carolina this weekend. It was his first time ever on campus.

"I never have been to USC so it was a new thing for me," Walton said. "I got to see everything. I meet with the players and got along with them. I got along with the coaching staff and they have been together for a while. That is new to me because my other top schools just got there coaching staff put together. Everything about the place is pretty neat."

Walton came away impressed with Columbia
What stood out most about the visit?

"I would say the fanbase," Walton said. "The fans here are one of a kind. I've been a lot of places but I like the fans here. I was just walking around and I had people that knew who I was. This is my first time here and that says something. They have been reading and talking about me when I haven't been around. That means something to me."

South Carolina linebacker coach Kirk Botkin is the recruiter for Walton along with defensive coordinator Lorenzo Ward. Walton was able to talk with them along with head coach Steve Spurrier this weekend.

"I talked with Coach Botkin, Coach Spurrier, and Coach Ward," Walton said. "They are looking at me at WILL (linebacker) but they said I could play MIKE (linebacker). They see me more as a WILL right now."

As with most official visits, the last thing Walton did was have a sit down talk with Spurrier.

"He was letting me know how many spots they have open and what they see they can do with me," Walton said. "I got along with Coach Spurrier pretty well. I grew up a Florida fan so he got to me there too. He did some great things there."

Walton holds offers from South Carolina, Auburn, Penn State, Tennessee, Mississippi State, Minnesota and a few others.

After this weekend, he says that one school has the edge for him.

"South Carolina is the leader," Walton said. "I had a really good time there. It would be Tennessee number two right now because I haven't been to Auburn yet to rate them. I'm going to stay in the SEC."

The 6-foot-1, 238-pounder detailed what is next for him and when he will make a decision.

"I go to Auburn next week and that will be my last official visit," Walton said. "I will announce my official decision once I get back from Auburn. It should be about three days after or once I have time to think about it once I get back."

Walton plans to stay in SEC

Jonathan Walton (Daphne, Ala./Bayside Academy) decommitted from Penn State last week. It was due in part to the departure of Penn State defensive coordinator Ted Roof. He also wants to play in certain region.

"I do plan to stay in the SEC," Walton told Ben Thomas of Al.com.

Walton holds SEC offers from Auburn, Mississippi State, South Carolina and Tennessee. None of them are considered a favorite at this juncture.

Well, Tennessee is second to South Carolina, thought I had heard it all until I heard this.

Some players just like different things and just mesh with the coaches at different schools. kids don't always look at the new facilities or Neyland and see it the same as we do. The young man feels more comfortable at USC then we will just have to move on to the next one.

NO...Vanderbilt just landed a "monster" TE in Vandenburg. Oh yeah, they also got Parsons..another monster 4 star. Unfah qingbelievable...

HONOR THY VOLS...CHERISH THEM...
