I like him as a DE in the 3-4. He actually played DE in a 4-3 in high school which is pretty remarkable, given his size. His film is pretty solid.

not really. if the guy went to Miami and is willing to come visit here the following weekend given his best friend going with him, i would not bet he is 99%. logic says he is def. interested in Tenn. and would prob room with Bourque.

see how the staff could use this to their advantage? if we strike out with jacoby, then bryson bring him on. but we still don't know if shelton is going to commit or not.

TW, that's the best explanation I've heard of the 25 scholarship rule, thanks. I get the feeling we don't get Kirven, but ATP he would be icing on the cake for our D-line.

Just read from one our sites that the staff wants to take 2 more DL in this class. That Kirven and Goldman both have a spot if they want it. If we miss on one of those it appears that C Casher wants to join the class, but was just told that right now the class is full. Apparantly it was Sunseri that advised early in the process to not take Casher's commit.

So I guess this weekend visit with Kirven will be interesting as well we have so other uncommited recruits in town with him.

Mike Farrell wrote an article following up with Kirven after his Bama visit...thought this was a nice quote...

"Maryland has great coaches and they put a lot of players in the NFL," he said. "And Tennessee has coach Sal Sunseri now who is my favorite recruiting coach and who was recruiting me at Alabama. Virginia kind of fell off for me. I could still take a mid-week official there if I wanted to, but I don't think I need to."

This week coaches will be swinging by school and by the Kirven household.

"I think Tennessee is Monday, Virginia Tech Tuesday, Alabama Wednesday and Maryland Thursday," he said. "It will be a busy week."

Kirven will decide on Signing Day at his school.

We heard from a few people Sunday night that it looks like the family is hoping to make a trip Wednesday of this week to meet with some coaches and check out the campus one last time before the Virginia Tech official visit this weekend.

The fact that he's taking his parents with him is what stood out most to me. This is excellent news! Just what we needed in the wake of Santos and his possible decommitment looming. Go Vols!
