'12 VA DT Korren Kirven (Bama signee)

Have to keep things in perspective with Kirven. It is good news and big news that he is taking his visit this weekend. Things can change, but I would be SHOCKED if he committed while he was here. Having lived in Lynchburg for a few years, this area has a major VaTech pull. Same HS as QB Logan Thomas. Some may disagree, but I'll be very surprised if he ends up anywhere but there.

Here's hoping that Dooley, Sal, and Co. really make an impact this weekend! :loco:

While I completely agree with that, aren't we the only school offering a shot at DE?

VT still his leader BUT with now CSS on board his visit this wknd just more interesting...

I can't answer that because I don't know. But he would be a monster DE in a 3-4 defense. Getting McCullers in the middle definitely opens up the opportunity for him to move there.

Kirven to visit Tennessee this weekend after all

Credit Tennessee's perseverance for securing an official visit from Korren Kirven.

The four-star defensive tackle from Lynchburg (Va.) Brookville will visit Knoxville this weekend, as he had planned weeks ago. That had changed when the primary recruiters in charge of recruiting him, defensive coordinator Justin Wilcox and linebacker coach Peter Sirmon, left for the same positions at Washington last week.

Kirven told ESPN shortly thereafter that he might not take his official visit to Tennessee. Then, earlier this week, a source with knowledge of his recruitment said the Vols and Kirven had fallen apart and that he had decided to take a visit to Maryland this weekend instead of Tennessee.

sorry if this has already been posted:salute:

So here’s where he’s going in January (according to Rivals):

Maryland 01/06/2012
Tennessee 01/13/2012
Alabama 01/20/2012
Virginia Tech 01/27/2012

Jeez, there’s not a bad choice in those last three for the kid. Man, must be nice. Here’s to hoping that Dooley Recruiting Magic™ comes through again.

Is it any less likely we sign Kirven or Shanks with McCullers committing today?
Might help with kirven. Like previous posters said it would create an ideal situation for him to star as a de in a 3-4. Shanks might be less apt with a pure nt already in place with experience on him but we still don't have the depth or potential commits that fsu has so it should be a moot point

Shouldn't change anything. I think the staff would love at least 1 more DL in this class.

And you don't turn players like Kirven and Shanks down.

I almost blasted him for the same thing but i think he's asking whether it would affect their decision to sign with us, not whether or not we would take them cause lord knows we would never turn down quality depth in the trenches.

Oh yeah I know. I was just making a point.

Yes I probably could have worded it better. I still want them both. Just didn't know if they would be as interested in us with sentimore having signed and McCullers now committed.

So at what major school is Shanks going to walk in and get significant playing time as a freshman? McCullers is a 2 year guy. That's perfect for a great prospect like Shanks. Come in and RS, get stronger, get academics in order, learn the schemes. Work into the rotation the next season. Start as a RS sophmore. Ideal if you ask me.

i dont think, even with mcullers, that shanks would be a redshirt. i think weve already got alot more depth than last year but if shanks lives up to expectations he would be in the rotation and special packages pretty quickly. i do agree that the mcullers situation would be good for him though, he can get playing time and experience without being pressured to be "the" guy and at the same time push couch and mcullers to better themselves.

Saw shanks, kirven, and everyone else. Dooley sat next to Kirven the whole time and laughed it up with him. Was pretty clear he was working him hard. Sunseri and Graham were also here. They all left after the first TV timeout. Daniel McCullers came down and sat in the same section and he is probably the biggest man I have ever seen in person.

- From a poster on VQ. Good news about Dooley sitting with Kirven.
