'12 VA DT Korren Kirven (Bama signee)

Tennessee def has Kirven thinking but I think in the end he ends up at VT.

"It was a great experience. I had a lot of fun. Everything went well when I got up there. Went to talk to the coaches, coach (Derek) Dooley and coach (Peter) Sirmon and coach (Lance) Thompson and all of them. I talked to some of the new recruits. It was a great experience," Kirven said

"I'm trying to get those set up. I know for sure I'm going to Tennessee. I'll take most of them after the season," Kirven said.

"It's not an official top yet, but they're up there. They're definitely in my top (group). I'm just trying to narrow my list a little bit," Kirven said.

"Just the atmosphere for the game. Like, when I went up there for the game all the fans and stuff were so happy and they were just willing to bring me in and talking to me and keeping good conversations. The coaches are good and good people. Just seemed like a real positive environment. The coaches care for me and stuff like that. Sounds like a great place and seemed like a great place when I went up there," Kirven added.

Boom?

If he ends up anywhere besides VT I'll be shocked, same w/ McCullers & Bama. I just wouldn't get my hopes up on those two.

Agreed. I have lived in Lynchburg and it has strong ties to VaTech. VaTech QB Logan Thomas is from the same HS and I am sure he will feel pressure to Tech in the end. Also has been a Tech fan for years. He will probably enjoy the process, but in the end will be like a Timmy Jernigan.

Just could not imagine choosing VT and playing the powers like JMU, East Carolina, Wake Forest and such over UT and the SEC. Blacksburg will be a dumpster fire when the gorde rides out of town and I for one can't wait for the melt down.

I just feel like we have one big surprise/upset up our sleeves and I feel like this could be it.

I like your optimism. Just don't share it. I hope I'm wrong, but this guy has very strong ties to Tech. Family, close in proximity, HS ties, and long-time fan. He will take visits because he wants to enjoy it and doesn't want to be close-minded, but it will be very hard for anybody to steal him.

And on the flip side a Va Tech fan could say the same about playing powers like Buffalo, Wyoming, Kentucky, and Vanderbilt. Yes UT is in the SEC but no where near the top of the conference so it doesnt really make a difference right now.

Va Tech is not a bad choice so dont try to make it out to be. The kid is from there, grew up with them. We knock TN kids for wanting to go out of state but when someone like Korren decides, if he does, to choose his home school its a dump and hes an idiot.

Take the homer glasses off dude.

Usually there is one out of nowhere but with the amount of scholarships we have left I think we have a pretty good idea of who we get. There really hasnt been a lot of smoke with Korren and his ties to Va Tech as well as his dads wishes are pretty clear so this one I wouldnt expect. I would love to see it happen but not likely.

I grew up 10 minutes from Lane Stadium, sold cokes in the stadium during the "Metro Conference" days when they would give away tickets. Va Tech plays no one, when they do get to a bowl game (save the chicken bowl) they get waxed. Beamer will be retired in the next 5 years and with the rise of UVA they will be back to where they belong.

Really? Let's not compare schedules. They have played ZERO teams in the top 15 of the current BCS Standings. We have played 5 of them. Everybody plays a few crappy teams.

They did play #17. And they got beat. 23-3. At home.

we played the top three teams in the nation. so get rid of all that Vandy and Kentucky crap. Your point might be valid if we had Georgia's conference shedule.

^^ It really hurts my heart that we lost to those bottom feeders from Blacksburg in the chicken bowl. All of my buddies back home live on that one victory and bring it up everytime I see them. Of course most of them claim to be lifelong VT fans (most 40+ year old up there do) and when I break out pictures with them in UT swag or UVA all they can say is "well we were not good then".

What Tech fans fail to understand is that we were 6-6 that year and they were #11 in the country when we play them. That should tell you enough about our two conferences.

As far as tech fans, most of them were born in the last 12 years or so. Once they got Vick, Tech fans started popping up all over the place.

I think we were 7-5 though weren't we? Still not in the top 25, and they were #11/12
