He may have been asked to gray shirt after his loi was in and in return he has the oprion of changing his commitment. How crazy would that be. I have moved on and don't expect this to happen but I would welcome the young man back with open arms.

texas signed the #14,#16, and #18 ranked inside linebacker (rivals).....damn thats a battle for playing time not counting the upper classmen.
What you're failing to acknowledge is the politics involved with sports in general. Coaches develop man-crushes for irrational reasons all the time. The fact is---Santos wasn't wanted why Texas until the 11th hour of recruiting. There are kids that Texas had, that they wanted A LOT more.
This is huge for a bunch of reasons:
1) Mentally. Football is a very mental game, and Santos isn't going to get the same praising, reps, and respect he would have gotten at UT. This--depending on the player---can either hinder or accelerate development. In my opinion, Santos isn't quite there athletically. I think with proper focus and coaching, he could develop into quite an athlete. He won't get the same attention which will affect his mental development.
2)Athletic development. He's not going to get the reps for the same reason as above, which will inhibit his performance. He's not going to be "the guy". He's going to be one of the herd. ESPN had him listed as our TOP PROSPECT. Perhaps you have a tough time understanding causal relationships---but having the reputation of "the guy", means a lot from the way teammates treat you, the fan base see you, and has a lot to do with mental development.
3) Depth of Texas. Texas has been having solid recruiting classes---and Santos is going to get lost in the mish-mosh. He's a medium sized fish in a big pond. Not saying Tennessee is a small pond---but we're still going through rebuilding, and there's a lot more opportunity to outshine here---which impacts your mental development and your athletic development---which impacts your ability to maximize your potential.
But yeah, if you want to ignore all that and pretend college football is a video game where everyone is a robot with a pre-assigned ranking of SPD, TCK, END, etc,--then yeah, I could see how you could think that situation A is the exact same as situation B.
Our coaches did the best job, I think since we've been here, of keeping relationships with kids and saying, "If someone does transfer, if someone does graduate early and we have an opening, then we like you and you have been approved. We may come back." For instance, [offensive line coach] Stacy Searels had that relationship with Dalton [Santos] the whole time. It wasn't a surprise."
For all those who think he will get spun down to the DL, the only way that happens is if he out grows the position. More than likely he will either be the the #2 or #3 MLB at Texas next year. If is not like thay are guaranteeing to RS him. They played 18 of their 22 recruits last year and more than likely will be playing 15+ of this years class.
Texas is not particularly deep at MLB. Even if they are doing a hybrid 4-3/4-2-5, there still be plenty ofsnaps for him to get some game experience this year. The real question will be if he actually slims down or redistributes his weight when he gets under the tutelage of a cfb strength and conditioning program. If he keeps growing, there is no way he would have stayed at MLB at UT, mu h less at Texas.
This ideology is completey ignorant. If he is a good football player then he is a good football player. Coaches put the players on the field that give them the best chance to win. Too many dollars and too much pressure for them to do otherwise. If Santos is good he will play. It does not matter that he came in the 11th hour. Its just biased boneheaded homers trying to make themselves feel better about losing Santos.
So, has anyone confirmed as to whether or not Texas seriously asked Dalton to greyshirt? I don't think this is true IMO, but I have no idea. Just curious as many of you are. And I am not hoping that he comes to TN or anything either...it would just be interesting to me that someone with his ability would turn down a scholly at TN to greyshirt somewhere else.

This is 100% not true. There is a VERY good chance he is #2 on the depth chart at MLB next season. That means lots of snaps and he is one injury away from starting. It is hard for me to imagine that a hard-hitter like DS won't also be involved with special teams.

Thanks. Are you 100% sure about this, as in you have sources to confirm it? Or do you just think that you know for sure without sources, based on logical thinking?
