Perroni - "I still have the same thoughts on Santos. I think he will eventually end up at DE. I think Otha Peters is the big-time ILB for Tennessee in this class. Keith and Chris were down in Orlando and their thoughts were taken into consideration as well and Santos was not considered for the 250"

UT appreciates the fact that UGA wasn't interested in AJ (if this is what you crazy UGA fans really want to believe). [Before you discredit this, I went to North Hall, one of Gainesville's rival highschool's in 7-AAA (at least that's what it used to be) and I witnessed Mark Richt at a Gainesville game when I went to watch AJ play (after he had already committed to UT) so please don't try to say he wasn't interested. Oh, also, AJ was pretty much the only talented player in that game so he wasn't there to watch anyone else either]

AJ probably knew exactly why he didn't want to go to UGA. Under the Mark Richt regime, his typical recruiting targets all have great potential but most end up pi$$ing all their talent away during their four year tenure at UGA. Mark Richt is second to none in wasting BCS (and potentially NFL) caliber talent. If I remember correctly, he had the second highest set of recruiting talent in the past decade (second to USC), how has that man not won a championship?

I grew up in GA and the typical DOG fan had the annual expectation of winning the national championship before the season started and falling very short of that mark by year's end.

Georgia's fan make me :banghead2::banghead2: everytime i read an idiotic posting similar to the one that you think "AJ would have redishirted this year becuase he doesn't fit into the defenisive scheme." That's just an asanine statement. It would be equivalent for a UT fan to say "we think AJ would have been playing the WR #2 position his junior year because Justin Hunter was coming in and he's a stud."--- It's just a dumb statement.

Bottom Line....IMO....Santos stated he was "lost".....Reason: Did not know what or where the new DC would position....At the time did not know the new DC was CSS....Really think he was wise to keep options open by entertaining others in his recruitment....He needs to know that any sells did not change with the change of the coaching staff....Only one coach can reassure him of that and he is visiting him today....
I understand and trust many also do too....This should not be a hard sell....GA just be blessed and honored that a future Tennessee Vol gave you the time of day.....I know in the years to come you will love to watch him bring havoc to your offense and you can't even state that he was the one that got away because you never had him....All you will state is that I wish our coaches could evaluate talent better than UT....

These are the same folks who refused to give Randolph a 4th star last year. AJC named him their hitter of the year or something like that. He won a Gatorade award iirc... but Rivals didn't think he had skills. They dissed Worley too claiming he didn't have enough arm strength. If he proved anything in his limited PT this past fall... it is the claims of no arm strength were greatly exaggerated.

My only worry with Santos is the same one everyone has. Coverage.

Almost all of our INT's this year came from Austin Johnson dropping back into the tampa 2. Santos isn't going to be able to play a very good tampa 2.

You could say just have him in on run downs but that'd make for an easy check.

Hopefully his lack of coverage skills is exaggerated the way Worley's arm strength was. We can't have an ILB that can't drop into a zone.

Hopefully we can also get some relief in the interception department from our defensive backs.

Stupid. I really, really hope Santos becomes a 1st team All-SEC while he is here and we can rub that in Perroni's grill. Assuming he is still employed by then. Based on his evaluations today, it doesn't look so good.

I thought that is why we hired coaches.....

This is a little premature worry don't you think.....Paralysis of Analysis.

The funniest thing I've read in a long time is the Dawg fan claiming AJ couldn't fit in a 3-4 and he couldn't cover the field. In a 3-4 the ILB's aren't expected to cover receivers. That's comical. AJ is built from the mold of Donta Hightower. I guess Hightower can't play in the 3-4 either, huh?

Santos ability in coverage is definitely a concern.
That is not something to worry about much. Thats is what the nickel and dime packages are for. Many top LB in the NFL only play 2 downs and sit out on passing downs.

I'm not saying it can't be fixed.
But not only is he not good at it, he's admitting to not liking it. It's a problem.

No it isn't. He can either focus on it, improve it, and become a complete linebacker... or he can ride pine. I get the feeling he doesn't plan on riding the bench.

As of right now... It's a problem. And he wouldn't completley ride the bench even if he never got good at pass defense. He's too good a run stopper.

If we go to 3-4 this won't be as big a problem but in 4-3 it will. We'll just see what happens. Hopefully CSS drills it into him how important it is.

If you know everything, you would know that UGA did not offer AJ. Check it for yourself. Our staff took a long hard look at him, CTG watched him work out once. They felt he did not fit what we wanted in a LB. Not a knock against the kid but coaches make those kind of decisions all the time. The staff makes these decisions and sometimes they miss on them, this happens to everybody. Take a look at Randall Cobb and Patrick Willis, solid NFL guys.

Why would CMR come to Gainesville High? Maybe to build and/or strengthen the relationship with the coaches because we have had trouble getting kids from there lately. Remember the 2010 class when we missed on Blake Sims (Bama) and Tai-ler Jones (Notre Dame).

It's okay if you want to take a shot at CMR and UGA, just include all of the facts.
