Well, if they are planning on joining the SEC, what better position to start recruiting for at than a hoss of an ILB.

But if they actually announce in two weeks, then how would Santos' desire to play in the SEC help us at all?

"But if" Then we are going on assumptions. Don't you think the coaches at TAM have played that card? TAM decision to join the SEC didn't happen after he committed to us. That had to be in the works for a while now.

Well, I was assuming that the posted you quoted ("could get interesting") was dependent on it happening. If it doesn't happen, he's obviously sticking with the Vols.

But you're probably right in that A&M tried to play this card, knowing it was in the works. Hope so.

I didn't feel good about his commitment before the whole a&m being a done deal.. I do not think he sticks with us

I mean even if A&M joing the SEC, the schedules are set through like 2012 or 2013 right? I could be wrong. It would be several years atleast before the schedules could reflect the change. So even if A&M "joins" the SEC in a couple weeks, it would still be awhile before the teams they play changes significantly. If anyone knows more about how the schedules work please feel free to correct me.

I would absolutely love for him to stick with us, but I hope noone loses too much sleep over losing him. He is a huge piece in Dooley's plan to rebuild this defense, but we must realize that we brought in C. Harris last year who I believe will be a very solid MLB for Tennessee. Here's to hoping Santos sticks with the Vols :loco:

You know I was thinking the same thing. It takes a couple of years to merge another team into the league.

I heard the other day that the SEC was holding the 2013 schedule and would not release it. Sort of makes sense now.

Here's point that I wanted to make. If this came up about three or four months from now then I would say oh crap this isn't good. Having just committed to us just a few days ago, I just think that the report is bogus. Now of course thats JMO. If TAM gets in this year then yea, it will be a battle to keep him.

And I can see why people might think he could change commitment if Texas A&M joins the SEC but I'm not sure why everyone is freaking out. For all you know that ship has sailed and he actually is committed to the Vols and the coaching staff.

I agree. This isn't the first time the subject has been brought up either. I'm sure the coaches and powers at be had an idea this was happening and tried to sell him on it. He's said when he gets to school, he wants to make an immediate impact. I'd say that is a better option at an established SEC school rather than the new guy on the block 1-2 years from now that's trying to feel their way around their new conference.

Of course he may stay committed. He may've just liked Tennessee more than A&M and used the SEC as a way to let the local fans down easy. But, you know, recruiting, you make a big deal about everything. And if it goes through this year, it's at least enough to make you question whether he'll hold steady.
