I am surprised by some of the negativity from Vols fans. A lifelong passionate Texas fan choosing to accept an offer to play for the Longhorns is not an indictment of the Tennessee program. If the kid accepted a last minute offer from a joke program like McNeese St, North Texas or Texas A&M, then Vol fans would have a right to freak out.

Also, Santos choosing Texas doesn't make him a prima donna. He is a young kid getting leaned on by millionaire salesmen, his parents and his entire town.

Really, Tennessee is in a "can't lose" situation. There is no shame in losing out to Mack Brown on a Texas kid BUT if he chooses Tennessee over Texas then that makes a huge statement about the Vol program and just might help you guys to snag one last elite recruit.

Most TN fans are level headed and aren't freaking out. You speak of the vocal minority and they often habitate in the Football Forum.

Also, In b4 everyone tells you to get the hell out of here and we don't want to hear what you think.

I've been a reader on this site for many years, but this is my very first post. you get the honor of being the recipient of it. I agree with you 100%. I like Santos and want him to be a Vol, but if that does not happen, someone else will be given the oppurtunity to step up. There have been a lot of young men cross the checkerboard that on paper were not suppose to contribute much and ended up being superstars. If Santos goes to Texas, so be it. We'll manage without him......having said that. Please come to Tennessee Mr. Santos. :)

Congrats on your first post!!!

I don't know how Texas fans don't get that Mack Brown sucks.

Great post and ditto to what joshc wrote.

Mack is an elite recruiter and a great CEO of a college program and an average at best Xs & Os guy. Mack has wisely surrounded himself with the 2 best technical football minds at coordinator spots that he has had his entire career (his misplaced loyalty to a wildly incapable OC named Greg Davis is why Texas only has 1 national title during Mack's tenure).

Texas has an elite D and it would be elite D next season even in the SEC. The Texas o-line would be an above average SEC unit next season and the Texas RB corps would be in the top 3 talent wise in the SEC. Unfortunately, the Texas QB situation is a ****ing abortion and could bring about another 7-5 season next year BUT, if the QB issues can get sorted out, Texas will be a serious national title contender over the next 3-4 years.

Anybody can be an elite recruiter at TX. But I beg to differ on the elite D. Nobody in the Big 12 plays elite D, especially TX. Oh, and the only reason TX has a national title is Vince Young. If TX is a serious national title contender in 3-4 years it will be because they play a weak schedule, and if they face an sec team they will loose.

good stuff. Elite D amuses me greatly.

the if on the qb is exactly what torpedos elite programs. As soon as you miss there, it's tubes. Doesn't help that TX hasn't played defense in about 15 years. Won a national title by avoiding SEC teams and giving up roughly 257 points in a title game. It has gotten worse since then.

The Santos' were told last Wednesday or Thursday that Dalton would be receiving an offer in the next couple of days and you'd think they hit the lottery. They did everything but throw a party for Dalton.

"Anybody can be an elite recruiter at TX"
Tell that to David McWilliams & John Mackovic - we sucked for a long time before Mack.

"But I beg to differ on the elite D. Nobody in the Big 12 plays elite D, especially TX. "
Texas had the #11 D last season in all of college football.....and that was playing in an offensive intensive conference AND with getting limited help from a screwed up offense with massive QB problems.

As for strength of schedule.....in his final SOS ratings, Sagarin said that Texas played the 5th hardest schedule last season ( USATODAY.com ). I can be honest and admit that the SEC is the best conference but why you guys can't be honest and admit that the Big12 is the 2nd best conference is kind of weird.

it's because the Big 12 isn't the second best conference. There was once conference with roughly 4 good teams and then garbage. OSU freaking won the Big 12, with no defense to be spoken of.
