12 TN RB I'tavius Mathers

Did Mathers ever visit UT? If not, he is short-changing himself in a huge way. I don't buy anything about some big plus of going out-of-state... complete bull, especially to Ole Miss (no diss). I'm just saying we need a beast at RB and wish he would visit the big K-town. He would love Dooley and staff.

You can choose not to 'buy it' but it does not change the reality. You might not feel that way but this kid does. But that is not the most compelling factor of his recruitment anyways. Early playing time is #1.

Yeah he could get early playing time here
too though chief

But judging by our running game, don't you think the opportunity is there for early playing time?

I think he could go to Ole Miss and get early playing time and lose or he could come to Tennessee and potentially get early playing time and be something a team needs to help it actually win. Houston Nutt is on really hot, hot seat and Dooley has at least 2-3 more years before he gets on a really hot, hot seat. Distance from Murfreesboro to Ole Miss - 5 hours, Tennessee - 3 hours. Both are far away from home to get away but a little easier drive for family to come watch him play. I'm hearing that he may be listening to a few other teams other than Ole Miss which may be a sign he is wavering on his commitment. Vandy and Arkansas are still pursuing him really hard. Hope UT is still pursuing also.

Let one get away here. If he was playing in Florida, Texas, Lousiana, etc. he'd be a high 4 Star (5.9-6.0) on Rivals and a possible 5 Star. This kid is a game-changer, and we're going to be wishing we could have kept him in-state. Blackman could be 8-0, if he wasn't injured and missed 1+ quarter in each game they have lost....

It's not like the staff didn't try. When the players and coaches just aren't hearing it, you have to move on and use your time elsewhere.

I understand that, but it sucks that the best RB in the state thinks like that. He's gunna be a baller.

Mathers wasn't having any of it. We wanted him here, and had him targeted for quite sometime. He never showed much interest. If anything, its him that made the mistake not Tennessee. He chose Ole Miss. That program is going absolutely nowhere in terms of improvement. Not smart on his behalf.

I just watched this kid rush for 340+ against Farragut tonight in round 1 of playoffs. Great speed. He had an 80 yard touchdown on first play from scrimmage and added an 83 yard touchdown in 3rd quarter. He is exactly what we are missing right now.

Thanks for the update.

The stats I found had him finishing with 342 yards and five touchdowns on 26 carries.

Ole Miss. I was at the game as well. His cut backs are amazing. That first 80 yarder was amazing. He has unbelievable vision. Very elusive even in traffic. He is the real deal.. People thought I was crazy when I said it back in spring, but he reminds me of CJ Spiller. He is literally their entire offense. I wish we could have landed him.. He is gonna be very productive at the next level.. What is even more impressive is put up 342 yards and 5 Tds with turf toe. He also had 70 or 80 yards called back due to penalties

Mathers wants to go somewhere where he can step right in and be the man. Hence Ole Miss. But nutt is all but done so it might get interesting.
