Palardy is another Kiffin recruit that has never lived up to the hype. He and Darr both need competition.

I should say...Chris' punting isn't SEC level. I guess Palardy will have to push Darr. Don't know the answer to the punting deal. Bullock is so-so on the punting.

Chris' main thing is that he is dead straight on the place kicking. He hits it right down the middle...over and over and over. From 45 yards and in, he will be about 90%. He doesn't have to hook the ball to generate distance like Palardy. And he is the same off the ground as with the one inch tee.

Does anyone know why Palardy has struggled so much? Wasn't he ranked the #1 kicker in the country in high school?

Well, I have a theory on that. Once you learn to kick at the top level, then it is more mental than anything. I like to use golf as an analogy for kicking. Once you learn to hit a golf ball good, then it becomes a matter of how to stay on top of the little things. That is why most of the top golfers have a coach that meets them at the big tourneys and is always fine tuning them. Palardy lost his stroke at some point. Once that happened, he lost his confidence. Then you start trying too hard and he lost his stroke. The ball he kicked into the line against Vandy, his foot hit way too high on the ball on that attempt. Came out way low. The one at Kentucky, his foot hit too much ground...what we call a chilly dip in golf. I can't believe they don't put a Wilhoit or Hendrich on staff as a grad assistant for the kickers to keep them fine tuned. Not having a field goal kicker, cost us that Kentucky game.

Thanks moodyjunior for the great note on Chris' video. You are exactly right! The Vols have a great history of excellent kickers. The past few years have been painful. Next year, we must fix the run game and we must fix the kicking game.

I have posted this before & I will post it again ... the special teams coach is Eric Russell !

The special teams players don't like or respect him.

I am telling you they are not missing on purpose, they are just unhappy with the coaching he have to deal with.

How dare Kiffin recruit 4-5 star players most other schools wanted. He was trying to get us some depth and play makers so he didn't have time to fully evaluate all players. I don't understand the bashing of Kiffins recruits. Most teams in the nation recruited the same damn players. Nobody knows how a player will act when he gets on campus.

Its his job to evaluate players himself and not go by rankings....
Maybe if he would have actually evaluated talent then we would have more than 3 players contributing in his 2009 class.

How well did it work out for Phil in his later years.

I think that Coach Russell works with the punt & kickoff coverage schemes, punt blocking, punt returns, kickoff blocking, angle kicks away from dangerous returners, when to go for the block versus being in the safe lineup on punts….that type of stuff. I don’t know if it is right or wrong, but someone on here stated that Fuad Reveiz said that the kickers work out by themselves during practice. I have a really hard believing that but……….???

Link?

Or did this come from a "inside source"?

Do you think they are letting 18, 19 20 .... year old young men work out by themselves ?

Jackson are you the one that said your brother was a kicker ? if so you know all these young men know each other from kicking camps or from soccer. This info comes from recruits & players, take it for what you want out of it ! This is why we lost out on all the top kicks at the first UT camps.

I was clowning around on that. I am simply a friend of the family of Chris Harris. Yes, there is sorta a circuit that you go through when you are in that niche. They were in some camps togerther, competed in Kohl's competitions and such. Chris has met (or at least been around) Bullock from West, Ogle from Greeneville, Fletchor (sp?) from Independance, several of the others. He had not meet the guy from Baylor but they played Chris' team during the regular season so he had seen him in action. And yes, Chris plays soccer and most of them probably do as well. I think the coaches picked who they wanted and that was Bullock.

As a high school football coach who has dealt with kickers for 20 years the first thing is you have to remember that they are all head cases. That is where most of the problems begin and end. Form can easily be corrected, mental processes are a little more difficult. Had a kicker last year that hit every ko 5 yds. deep in practice, get in a game and the ball comes down at the 3? Go figure. Anyway, just my 2 cents worth. Kicking is about confidence and neither of our kickers have it.
