Wow, this guy is fast as hell. We could really use someone with his talent at UTk. Has he already fast.

He sounds like a true STUDENT ATHLETE. Something you don't see much anymore. Good to have him on the team.

Cool, I thought so. I bet there are rules restricting it however.

He cannot be on academic scholarship. The only way a walk on can be is if they are non recruited. That is very unlikely at this point since it appears he is a being considered a preferred walk-on.

A compliance officer described to me the only way it can happen is if a kid showed up for tryouts at the beginning of the fall semester and the coaches had never spoken to them.

He should still get the Hope and Prez schols with a 4.0?

Hope I am sure he is good to receive. None of the institutional money can be given if he is a preferred walk-on. Also I don't think most people on here realize how tough it is to get academic money at Tenn. 4.0GPA AND a 30+ ACT score before you can begin to feel like you might get some. Its much tougher to get money now than it was just a few years ago.

Great kid to have on the practice field and in the locker room to help motivate the guys and stabilize the environment and attitude.

What's wrong with a 5'10 Zach Thomas style LB?

We are a lot more likely to recruit better linebackers than we are a lot of fullbacks. This kid can eventually play fullback and special teams.

I don't know, I just don't see us using a fullback a lot in the future. I think we will mainly use 11 personnel. I think Chaney wants to be pro-style, but more Colts than Texans.

Let's assume for a minute that injuries hit a depleted LB or FB core next season. If they carry only two schollie FB's, one of which graduates after this next season, they can use a guy like him no matter the scheme. Chaney has one year left on his contract. If he is not at UT next season, if anyone knows what scheme the next OC will use please let us know now. If they are going more like the Colts running game scheme we know for sure there will be a new OC after next season.

Wedley has good speed and leg strength for his weight and you can always use guys like that on ST and special situations on one side of the ball.
