Who will Kimbrow choose?

You need a lesson in reading comprehension...the topic is a comparison of Kimbrow to Young...therefore it's as much about him as it is DY...just because you don't like a topic doesn't mean that is grounds for clearing it out of a thread...

And we're not debating...a debate is when one side offers a point of view backed up with facts and then the other side responds with facts of their own that counteract the other sides stance....

I've stated clearly why the two players seem similar to me and all I've gotten in return are offer lists (which in no way explains how one player is differant/better than the other) and vague references to running styles

No you are debating. Everyone gives you a reason why they think he's better. You argue against saying give me something else. Everyone says oh he has better ability then you say DY's speed and agility are second to none. People say the running styles set them apart you say I will ignore that and I want to keep this DY crap going. Then we say well all the big time NC coaches say that he's better you basically say prove it. This argument really has nothing to do with Kimbrow it's more of a why don't you like DY type of situation. The dude is signed with the Vols nothing else matters right now. Back to KIMBROW ONLY PLEASE. This is getting beyond stupid.

I'm indulging in a laughable argument like this.

Amusing...you think because of your line of work and reputation on an internet message board that just saying something is laughable makes it so...

If it's so ridiculous then why don't you shoot it down with something more substantial than lol....my 13 year old sister responds to things with that acronym

Everyone's reason consisted of "he just is" or 'look at the offer list"...call me crazy but I was hoping for more than that...

Everyone cited Kimbrow's ability as reason he's better...what does that mean? I'm better than Breakerboy at typing because of my ability to type...do you think that's proof that I'm a better typer than you? Shouldn't I offer up something more than a vague statement as proof of that?

You say his running style sets him apart? Again, what does that mean? What is differant/better about Kimbrow's running style? This is the sort of thing I don't know and want to understand better...

The only legit argument I've been given since I asked this question is the offer list...which is something I already knew and was trying to understand better

Dear Lord, if a kid can help this team, what is the big deal how tall, fast, or what color his skin is?? If the staff feels a kid can help the team, get over yourselves. People obviously have preferred recruits they follow, just don't start throwing crap at each other over arguments that don't matter at all. I used to do that, and it's pointless, and it took me a while to learn that. Leave the evaluating to staff, it will cause you less grief.

Here's the thing eric...I'm not in any way partial to Young in the least...I've stated that severasl times since the first time I brought up the topic...

I asked a question about the difference between the two hoping someone could explain it better to me...

If I've erred in any way it was in expecting more detail than can be provided

calm down, bro.

I would seriously like for you...someone I believe is an expert on recruiting...to explain to me why there is such a disparity between Kimbrow and Young in their offer list, rating, etc.

If you could do that I would be much oblidged :hi:

Young is not as good as Kimbrow. Just trust in all the college coaching staffs that this is true.

"yea but why isn't he as good."- Thunder

because he just isn't. nobody on a message board is going to be able to answer the question you are seeking. just trust the ones who are real talent evaluators.

the argument you are trying to make for Young can be used on hundreds of recruiting comparisons.

Does it matter if there really is a difference?? I mean, we could pick and choose a few things, I'm sure, but in the end is how they fit on this team. Every player is different, but it's about how they help this team in the end.

So it's an intangible thing...kind of like in 2001 when we lost "Cadillac" Williams but some Vol fans thought it was no big deal because we replaced him with Keldrick Williams (not to mention we already had Cedric Houston and Jabari Davis committed)...

Keldrick had the same size, speed and had similar numbers to Cadillac coming out of highschool...no need to relive how that turned out...

Cadillac was just better than Keldrick...like Kimbrow is just better than Young....thank you for the clarity

good post...

I think most schools are looking at Kimbrow to play mulitple positions....the idea is to try and get the ball in his hands as much as possible whether that is at RB, Slot, Special Teams....I know all schools are not recruiting him just to play RB.......even though some are.

I think what you are seeing with the 2011 and 2012 class is that Tennessee is going after prototypes of guys that Dooley has had success with at other schools.....he has had success with small guys like Phillip Livas, Skyler Green, etc...who star in a variety of different roles........

Tennessee got the best kid in the state at doing that in 2011 in DY...now they are primed to do the same again in 2012 with Kimbrow........but its gonna be a much tougher pull IMO to get BK

Was about to put the same thing regarding Kimbrow. Thunder5, it is obvious that no one on this free UT message board has your answer. If you really want a legitimate answer you would just about to have to e-mail Saban, Petrino, Chizik, Kiffin, etc.

Kimbrow has recieved many offers very early in the process that DY never got. You can say it is because DY committed to UT early, but I doubt Alabama, Arkansas, Auburn, Miami, USC, etc., would have ever extended a commitable offer to DY.

I'm with you Thunder. I don't see too many huge differences in their game, but that's why I'm not a football coach. Many high profile coaches are extending offers to Kimbrow that DY never got. Can't deny that fact. There has to be some reason. You would have to ask those head coaches personally though.

And when Kimbrow is playing at one of those schools as a Nickel back/Kick returner everyone here can see why he got so many offers. I still would like someone to break down what each school is offering him. I believe he will be a DB and a STer. He isn't a true RB like so many people think. He looks like a Brandon James type player with DB skills. Another annoying trait I noticed watching his YT; he has Brice Brownitus. The sideline is his friend way to much; in the first couple of minutes I believe he could have extended several plays but runs out-of-bounds.

If you want to see a true RB with speed look up Keith Marshall on YT. Bigger, Stronger, and as fast. 5*

Rpeagram, we all know what Marshall, Gray, Shell, Sanders Jr, and all the other 5*/elite RBs can do. You are seeing the same things everyone else on here is seeing. Yes they are all better prospects than Kimbrow. Obviously. No one is disputing that. But the fact is we don't have a legitimate shot with any of them. It is very early and anything can happen in recruiting, but we aren't in the Top-5 for any of those prospects. We MIGHT get in on the Marshall or Sanders Jr. sweepstakes, but I highly doubt it. It is very unlikely to happen.

That is why everybody on VN is talking about the Kimbrow and Cross type Running-Backs. That is who we have the best legitimate shot with ATM and that is who our staff is targeting. I know 5* are attractive, but they aren't always the end-all-be-all of recruiting. I guess I just don't know why you are comparing Kimbrow and Cross with Gray/Sanders Jr./Marshall. If I had my pick between Sanders Jr. and Marshall or Kimbrow and Cross you can best believe I would take Sanders and Marshall. It would be foolish not too. But unfortunately UT doesn't have the luxury of that choice. We have what we have and ATM Kimbrow and Cross are 2 of our top realistic options left at RB. We can't afford to slow play them or turn them down.

DY- 5'7 156 4.5 40 yd
BK- 5'9 170 4.3 40 yd
We need speed and BK is faster. I've always thought the best way to judge talent is by the offer list, and there really is no comparison.

my God please drop this Kimbrow/Young debate already...

I'm really excited to see what Young can bring to the table at UT and I really hope we can lock up Kimbrow. There just isn't any need to debate and compare the two for several pages on here.

Who has any rbs listed as 5 stars now?

You do realize that this argument could be used for any recruit no matter what rating they were, right? So are you just going to piss and moan all year and try to justify everything with that? Could Young turn out to be special? Yes. However, evidence shows that all of these big time coaches feel like Kimbrow is a better prospect. And usually these big time coaches are right. Maybe this isn't the case, but calm down kid.

The highlight films on both DY and BK look very comparable....maybe DY just didn't make it to as many camps and showcases as BK.
