Who will Kimbrow choose?

I agree with this. It's a shame that people are not only unable, but unwilling, to look past the stars, rankings, and the offer lists and look at the player and be your own judge of talent.

My question is why should it matter? Devrin is a Vol. Devrin is good. End of story.

I like Devrin too. I was just wondering what the question was or why he needs to be compared to Kimbrow.

I understand. I'm just saying that right now, the Devrin Young hate is baseless and nonsensical, and it shouldn't matter anymore because he'll be in orange next fall. Also, the comparisons to Brian Kimbrow (except in regards to speed, maybe) are even more inane.

Dude it's simple not the same player. Just because someone is 5ft 8in 200 lbs doesn't make them Barry Sanders. Everyone playing basketball that is 6ft 6in and 215 is not Micheal Jordan

That might be a legit retort if I had only listed his size but I also listed the similarities in 40 time, 100m time, shuttle time, SPARQ score, level of competition and production...

Your answer is just more of the same...Kimbrow's better because he just is...

Nobody here seems to be able to tell me exactly why Kimbrow is better...they just know that he is

I didn't say he was better than DY or Vice versa your asking a question no one on this board can answer with 100% to make yourself look right.

If Kimbrow signs with UT and DY beats him out for Punt returner position what makes DY better? See what I'm saying you would say the coach made the best decision and is playing the best player but how do you know? Same here more coaches offering Kimbrow so people are taking it he's better.

So by that logic, Trindon Holliday and Darren Sproles are similar players and are equal. I never knew that.

Email the coaches that have offered Kimbrow and maybe they can give you a better answer.

Was about to put the same thing regarding Kimbrow. Thunder5, it is obvious that no one on this free UT message board has your answer. If you really want a legitimate answer you would just about to have to e-mail Saban, Petrino, Chizik, Kiffin, etc.

Kimbrow has recieved many offers very early in the process that DY never got. You can say it is because DY committed to UT early, but I doubt Alabama, Arkansas, Auburn, Miami, USC, etc., would have ever extended a commitable offer to DY.

I'm with you Thunder. I don't see too many huge differences in their game, but that's why I'm not a football coach. Many high profile coaches are extending offers to Kimbrow that DY never got. Can't deny that fact. There has to be some reason. You would have to ask those head coaches personally though.

Can a mod please clear all this DY stuff out of this thread. We are having a debate over a projected STs player and a little monster of a RB. Young's running style is good at the HS level but he won't do that in the SEC. Kimbrow bursts through the hole downhill like Chris Johnson(no comparison just his style of running is similar). He's a bit faster and his style of running projects a lot better than Young. Hope that helps to end this crap.

My sole motivation for asking the question was in hopes that people who know more than me could tell me more definitively what the difference is...I couldn't possibly care less about e-cred

FTR...I think Kimbrow is awesome and I'm hoping for his commitment more than any player on our board that's not named Gunnar Kiel or Geno Smith

You need a lesson in reading comprehension...the topic is a comparison of Kimbrow to Young...therefore it's as much about him as it is DY...just because you don't like a topic doesn't mean that is grounds for clearing it out of a thread...

And we're not debating...a debate is when one side offers a point of view backed up with facts and then the other side responds with facts of their own that counteract the other sides stance....

I've stated clearly why the two players seem similar to me and all I've gotten in return are offer lists (which in no way explains how one player is differant/better than the other) and vague references to running styles

Because Saban, Petrino, Chizick, Strong, Golden, Pelini, and Kiffin all disagree with you. If you are counting that is 3 national championships not including those who were assistants at the time their schools won one that think you are wrong.

I know you want more than offers, but isn't that really the best objective barometer of talent from an outside perspective?

Really? This is what you're getting from my statements?

Sproles has clearly outperformed Holliday at every level...in what way has Kimbrow significantly distanced himself from Young?

40 time...no
100m time...no
shuttle time...no
SPARQ score...no
competition level....no
production....no

Sproles didn't play the same type of competition that Holliday did at LSU therefore Holliday is clearly better. Holliday even had a better 100m time. Sproles ran a 4.5 at the combine and Holliday ran a 4.34. Case closed.

I have no problem with your line of questioning I just think that it would be a difficult question to answer until both get on campus (should we land Kimbrow).

Offer list is as a decent judge as any other but it's not the be all end all as well. That has been proven over and over. For me, ultimately, I have to watch the film myself. I trust my own opinion. And that's truly what were talking about here. Opinions. :hi:

Translation:

"I have nothing substantiative to back up my belief that Kimbrow is superior to Young so I'm going to attempt an absurd misdirection instead of having a grownup discussion about it"

I'm giving you facts. Electronically timed runs, nationally accepted levels of competition(SEC being better than the Big 12), etc. I see that as substantial.

This is an extremely reasonable perspective to have on the matter...

I honestly had no alterior motive to asking this question...I'm not a DY champion...I don't question Kimbrow's ability...I'm not trying to passive aggresively make any kind of point...

I asked the question in hopes of understanding why the question is such a slam dunk in Kimbrow's favor....and it quickly diverged into this
