'12 NJ ATH Kaiwan Lewis

If we start cooling on LB like Lewis and Dawson in favor of others, I would be very sad. The possibility of landing an absolutely stud LB corps this year was through the roof.

I bet if you ask the coaches about our LB haul up to now they'll tell you we have some studs. They may not all be 4* but there's no doubt they can play. I'm not making reasons for why we wouldn't pursue these guys but: Lewis seems to like the attention and is by no means in a hurry and Dawson won't listen to his dad tell him UT is the place for him. The coaches understand we need LBs way too badly to play around with these kids, we'll take ones who decide they want to be Vols when the opportunity is there.
Thus endeth matt's gravy n biscuit induced rant haha :)

Or they like the ones we've already got.

As much as I want Tennessee to win, I'll still have a job regardless of how many wins we get. The coaches' jobs are on the line. If they thought Lewis was a major upgrade over the guys we had, they would find a way to take him and get the guys we've got now to look around. If they're cooling on other guys, I'm taking that as a good sign about who we've already got.

so you would rather take a guy that the coaches have seen in person and have decided won't be a factor over a guy that they offered because of seeing their potential (like King)? That's silly. UT is not the only school that has backed off Lewis after seeing him in camp, as Rutgers has also cooled on him. We don't need anymore Askews.

And what in the world makes you think we aren't pursuing Dawson?

I didn't mean to imply we were cooling on Dawson. I just suggested that we may if we keep taking LB commits.

As for King, potential is only potential. It doesn't mean anything. Every one of us would love to see him exclusively in the LB position this year to see what he's really got but that is unlikely. There's just as good a chance that he doesn't translate to SEC LB very well as there is he is a great one.

I'm not saying our pick ups are bad, but it seems to me that this is finally a year we have a pick of the litter at LB and I would be okay with a slow pace until NSD now that we have Peters.

I agree potential is a fun word, and nothing is given. But wouldn't you rather sign a guy with potential rather than a guy who may be highly ranked but will never live up to those rankings.

Peters will bump Lewis on the next ranking update.

You can take that hypothesis to the bank imho, jmo.

Even worse that I think the rock was painted for this guy and not for Santos. I do hope Dalton sends the Vol Nation into celebration.

The one 4* we could have had, and we pass on him!!!!! Wtf?!?!?!

Really! So, you're telling us you would rather the coaches disregard their personal in person evaluation because some recruiting site has him as the very last eligible 4 star in their initial recruit rankings?

That might have flown with the last 2 staffs, but not this one!

He's a 4* player. I'd rather have an African American 4*, than the pasty white kid we just took at safety.

Why would I trust a coach's evaluation? They are plain stupid if they pass up on 4* talent just to take a lower rated guy.
