'12 NC OT D.J. Humphries

The problem with Rivals guys (Farrell in particular) is they refuse to give this staff any credit. Last year Farrell had us as one of the 10 most disappointing classes at one time, despite being in the top 25 at the time and told me (in a Q&A session) he believed it was going to be hard for us to maintain a top 25 class. The staff then manages a top 12 class. He and his guys dubbed T. Smith a top 5 physical back then refuse to bump him despite they're own analysis. He says Khalid will be a mid to high 3* then rates him a 2*, not that it matters. I'll continue to take these coaches evaluations and gut feelings over his and laugh when he's proved wrong.

I think before you expect to get any credit as a staff for evaluating players...they have to do something. We have not had any of our CDD recruits to really show out yet and until that happens...why should they be given this "they are great at evaluating talent" stuff. When people see it on the field, maybe the respect will come from the media.

I agree with this. Just wanted to step in and say that before everyone starts flaming Pace and misconstrues this as a negavol statement.

We're talking about a MUCH broader scale than what we've seen up to this point. I'm all for Dooley's recruiting/evaluating prowess, but as far as national recognition, we're still a few steps away. It's not that he's not succeeding at it, he just needs a few more examples to really get the point across.

I am not sure I would call one of the best OL in the class as being something CDD spotted. He was VERY highly rated well before he was a VOL.

Offers from Tennessee, Bama, AU, Stanford, Vandy, Notre Dame and LSU would speak to that.

With the possible exception of Propst and Crump, nobody from that class counts towards a judgment of Dooley's evaluation skills, because everybody else was universally liked or was evaluated by Kiffin's staff.

In last year's class, we have several more examples: Harris, Thomas, Orta, Coleman, Young, Dallas, Smith, Downs, Carson, Saulsberry, J. Williams. IIRC, all of these were fairly under the radar when they picked up UT offers.

I'm not necessarily talking about CDD's ability to spot "unknown" talent as much as his ability to pull in legitimate talent. He's proven he can get guys here. Farrell's take seems to be that its unfeasible for recruits like DJ to end up at UT, given how he's declared DJ a UF lock forever and expressed his reservations in CDD maintaining top 25 classes.

Tennessee needs two or three 4*'s or one or two 5*'s to really set this recruiting class on a spin to the top 10. Maybe we get DJ and then another big timer follows. I have confidence in this staff!!!

I was speaking more to the CDD recruit who has done something part of your post, since Stone couldn't be construed as a Kiffin recruit. There aren't many of those that have stepped on the field due to the circumstances of timing. I wasn't so much speaking to the evaluating portion, but I understand that point. Bottom line is that there isn't enough data for that yet.

If Dooley can somehow flip/trade Henderson and Blanc for a couple of the more overrated 4 stars (Rivals) then a lot of us could sleep happier (gazing up at the heavens.)

Did I miss something? Isn't Henderson a 4* on ESPN and unrated on Rivals?

Wasn't his 2* rating on Rivals so unbelieveable that even the "notoriously reluctant to admit their fault" Rivals almost immediately pulled it and now he is once again unrated until the next rating update?

Rivals is the only site that can evaluate talent, hello

Hubbs said tonight that he is hearing that Humphries is going to UF. This should not be a surprise since he has said several times that UF was his leader.
