'12 MS LB Richie Brown

We have players that are probably more talented than Richie, but it would have been really nice to land him. I have never seen him, spoken with him, and know only that which I've read (as in, I really know nothing), but he struck me as a kid with a Will Overstreet motor and I'll take players like that all day long.

I agree with you 100% about his motor and excellent comparrison

You guys saying Hubbs is wrong need to get your facts straight. Bullard and Thomas will count against the 25 and the 85. Tino will count against the 25 for the obvious reason he never enrolled to UT, and any time you add a former LOI signee from another school they count against the class you put them on scholly with. That's the rules, not speculation. It's different, however, if you get put on scholly and never sign a LOI previously, while enrolled at UT. Remember Malik counted against a previous class as well, even though he wasn't listed as a signee for that class. Bullard could obviously remain a walk-on, if he so chooses, but Dooley isn't going to let that happen because of his talent level.

I dont think you are correct

He's not correct. We have 21 committed plus one for Thomas. It is even being represented that way by CDD and most media outlets as being 3 to go. Reading the related two AA provisions previously posted indicates to me they are right.

Here's an update from Richie's father...

KeithRIVALS Keith Niebuhr
Father of LB Richie Brown said his son's OV to #MissState this wknd was "awesome" however Richie has NOT made a commitment. #OleMiss #USM

Not getting this kid doesn't bother me at all. Good luck to him but I couldn't care less about a recruit.

Is the staff treating Brown as a backup plan if Peters or Santos go elsewhere or is he a take for sure?

Have you been reading any of the thread?

I have seen mentioned that he is a Bulldog and more of the same argument about Bullard. The same discussion that has taken place for months on here and still no one really seems to know the answer for sure. Explain why the question offended you so!

Yeah he's a take. He's going to be a solid LB in the SEC.

Sure he is a real talent but at some point you have to stop taking every good player. 2 or 3 spots left tells me he isn't a take unless Peters or Santos isn't a a Vol.

I believe the UT coaching staff would take R.Brown no matter what. If R.Brown wants to be a Vol, then he would be. UT would make room, IMO.

I understand that opinion but you must be willing to say whose place he takes.

Q davis?
DT?
Shelton?
Or current commit?

I wouldn't want to take him over Q davis, shelton, or in place of a dt.

You are under the assumption that all 3 or 4 of those prospects would want to sign with UT. If that is the case, I think UT would find some way or loophole to make room for all.

But I think Gray is gone. That leaves 3 spots IIRC. I think if R.Brown wants to commit than UT takes his commitment. Then one of C.Patterson or Q.Davis. I don't think UT would take both and I also don't think both would want to come to UT. I then think Shelton as the 3rd and final spot. I think if Gray is gone, it will be a combination of bad grades and the fact the staff thought highly of Shelton.

So drop Gray, and then add R.Brown, Patterson or Davis, and Shelton. I honestly don't see UT getting another DT unless Briscoe ends up visiting UT the last weekend and he becomes a take. I think Kirven and Shanks are long shots.

That fair to say you would take brown over another DT. I can buy that but I wouldn't go that direction. SS is going to be able to recruit elite LBs in the 13 class and we simply need another DT more than another LB imo.

You also need to remember that UT probably is switching their defense to a majority 3-4 defense. There is going to be more LBs on the field than DTs at most times. Well, I suppose that usually was the case in the 4.3 as well. But still.

UT is going to have to start bringing in 3 to 4 quality LBs every year if they plan on running the 3-4 defense effectively.

No disagreement there. I just think our stable of LBs is in better shape than our DTs. Therefore I want another DT instead of Brown. That doesn't mean I think Brown won't be an very good SEC player.

its not even official yet though right? cause im not seeing it on his rivals, with all the bs we had to go through with rumors and speculation over commits and coaches i think i will wait this one out. he may very well be gone but until he signs that loi i will continue to hope otherwise.

You are correct. It's not official yet. But we are officially out of it.

In essence, what you are saying is true, but you have to remember that when you run a 3-4 you are recruiting players that are different from what the recruiting services consider them. For instance, in a 3-4 your "DEs" are really 3 technique DTs in a 4-3. Your Jack LBer is a pass rushing DE type. So really in a 3-4 I would argue that you might have to recruit more DT than you would in a 4-3...
