'12 MS LB Richie Brown

Best in the country? No wonder why fans on here get disappointed once the season starts.

hah. if you don't think we will have one of the best LB cores in the nation come 2013 then what football players have you been watching? and i really wasn't all that disappointed this year. I'm part of the rational group of fans that knew our season was over when Hunter went down. I still however saw that Dooley was continuing to bring in stud recruits. So i was never disappointed.

But youre telling me, that with the LBs were bringing in, AND the addition of the best LB coach in the nation as our DC, you don't think were gonna have one of the best LB cores come 2013?? (honest question)

“It was a lot of fun,” Brown said. “I talked to a lot of the coaches and the new coaches. The whole trip was very informative.”

While Tennessee has undergone a whirlwind of coaching changes since the conclusion of the 2011 season, Brown says it hasn’t affected his recruitment much at all with Tennessee defensive line coach Lance Thompson leading the charge.

“It is not as big as (of a factor) as you might think it would be,” Brown said of the coaching changes. “It is really not. Coaches change wherever you go. There is no complete guarantee that you are going to have the same coaches all four years. It is a factor, but you really just want to look at the players and what it will be like playing with them for four years.”

Brown did get a chance to converse with his perspective new coach at Tennessee, defensive coordinator Sal Sunseri, the former assistant head coach and outside linebackers coach at Alabama.

“He is a good coach,” he said. “I talked with him and he definitely knows what he is talking about. He is a very interesting guy. He definitely knows what he is talking about that is for sure.”

Brown, a three-star prospect by Scout.com, was definitely wooed with the lay of the land at Tennessee, both academically and athletically, calling everything UT had to offer ‘amazing.’

“They definitely do have top-notch facilities everywhere you go and they are still trying to make improvements,” Brown said. “You really do have to try to fail here. If you fail here it is probably your own fault. The academic side is just amazing. They have a really good program going on the academic side.

“On the athletic side, they are going to have the best facilities in the country soon. I saw the plans and everything and it is going to be really nice.”

“Culture (is most important) — How I see myself fitting in over the next four years,” he said. “The people are very important to me. It is a really in-depth thing and you really have to take your time in recruiting. I am trying to play it as smart as I can.”

Brown will focus on player relationships, which he said got off to a wonderful start during his first look at Tennessee while hosted by fellow linebacker John Prospt.

“(Propst) is a great guy,” he said. “We had a really good time together. I hung out with a lot of the other recruits too. There were a lot of good guys there. Everybody there were really good guys and we got along really well.”

All the prospects got a chance to take in the sights of the Tennessee basketball showdown with border rival Kentucky, which was a solid showcase of Big Orange fandom.

“The Tennessee fans were awesome and really good people,” Brown said. “A lot of them were screaming at us and being friendly. They are good people. You can tell they are true fans and they try to support their team any way they can.”

The young man paid attention and seems to really be weighing his options. We have as much of a chance as the next team imo.

I really wanna see this kid in orange..but for some reason i just see him putting on that ugly maroon...hope i'm wrong. hope i'm dead wrong.

Yeah they are on their way home now. My parents are impressed with the school. They were impressed with vol for life program. And as mentioned in the article above, Richie really loved the UT defensive line coach. Either him or another coach is flying out to see Richie on Tuesday. Hopefully I will get to meet him then. My school starts back that day but my USM campus(in longbeach) is right by their house.

I think this kid is the real deal and he is the type of player that we want. High character, big hitter, and good family. Would be a excellent addition to the vfl program.

Yeah they are on their way home now. My parents are impressed with the school. They were impressed with vol for life program. On a crazy note, My parents were in a vehicle with some other recruits parents or something(forget who exactly). They were at a stop light when some crazy woman slammed in to the back of their vehicle and caused a 4 car accident. She was apparently texting and driving. Everyone was ok though. They coach came out there. Richie wasnt with them at the time. He was with other recruits elsewhere. And as mentioned in the article above, Richie really loved the UT defensive line coach. Tell him to think about Neyland Stadium and the new workout complex while he is on his visits to MSU, OM, and So Miss. Then ask him at the end to sit down and compare them.

I think TN blows them away.:good!:

Dang man! Glad you they are okay. People texting and driving are complete idiots.

Ditto everyone being OK. That's the most important thing.

Richie is a natural for UT. He's multi-positional in a multiple D. Very athletic and great speed for a LB. If he's happy with the academics and the VFL he needs to get on up here ARIK. He will compete for titles in Knoxville. Once the blood goes orange nothing is ever the same.

seriously how has this youngster not blown up, nice size great wheels.

i don't get it

I love how Richie is weighing his options and rationalizing the process. He seems mature for his age. One thing to take into consideration is Tennessee is a considerably better overall academic institution than Ole Miss, MSU or Southern Miss. See the US News and World College Rankings as proof. Tennessee is traditionally a top 90 overall academic institution, we have slipped to #101 the past few years but we are just outside the top 100 schools, while I highly believe Ole Miss and MSU are in the 125-150 range.
