"I think I really improved a lot," O'Brien said. "I really improved in the run defense. I think I finished with over 100 tackles and I overcame double and triple teams to make tackles. It is frustrating when you are getting double and triple teamed."

He's watched Tennessee struggle on the field this Fall, but he's remained firm to his commitment. Other prospects have heard from programs, but has O'Brien been fielding those same phone calls?

"Iowa actually called me today," O'Brien said. "I'm not going to look around. I talked to Dalton about the situation and I told him that Tennessee is where I want to be. I'm done."

He's stayed in constant contact with the Tennessee staff and he'll actually see members of the Vol coaching staff next week.

"I talked to coach Sirmon yesterday," O'Brien said. "He and coach Dooley are coming to visit me next Monday when I get back. He just wanted to touch base with me and wanted to make sure that no one was saying untrue stuff about Tennessee. He wants me to be a leader of the recruiting class and talk to the other guys and make sure everyone is staying focused."

Well, I hope we don't hear anymore BS about O'Brien's and Santos' commitments being soft. Sadly, my hopes will probably be squashed with some of the folks on this board.

"situation?"

Moved up to #11 on Rivals position rankings. Also a beast. Would be much higher if this wasn't such a loaded year at DT.

So are you saying he would be #1 if there want 10 DT's that were better?

Sarcasm

This guy looks as good as any I've watched tape on

theres a new article up on tos saying hes not a teddy bear in the trenches or on the field. thats gotta be a good thing

So what are we feeling as far as PT next year? If he's an EE and what if he's not? Also, would we like to see him play because that's mean he's just that good or redshirt because that would mean we had depth?

He should project to the two-deep by talent alone. But here's an adage you can use:
He gets on the team because of talent, on the field because of practice, and off the field and off the team because of grades.

If O'Brien does everything in the classroom and the practice field, he'll be playing significant minutes in the two-deep. At Tennessee we're gonna rotate 8 players. We were looking kind of scary at the beginning of the season against Montana and Cincy. But when the guys got used to the pace and Couch started getting it, we looked much better.

This kid would step on few teams where he would not be a starter or a significant backup.

Just curious, what is O'Brien's weight these days? He was listed as 270 last time I saw. Seems a little light for DT. I'm sure he'll put it on once he gets here but at 270lb, I have serious doubts about him cracking the 2-deep as a true freshmen.

Last I read he hadn't decide for sure on being an EE(sorry for not reading back to see if that's changed), but the importance of him doing so might be getting ready to sky rocket. Has he made a final decision on EE?
