not really. We have 13 I believe Dooley said.
We have 14 including Schofield, but when you break down the numbers we absolutely do need to sign an offensive lineman, IMO:
Seniors: Thomas, Gooch, Anderson
Juniors: Stone, Bullard, Fulton, Schofield, James
Sophomores: Richardson, Jackson, Pair
Redshirt freshmen: Kerbyson, Crowder, Posey
True freshman: --
Eight of our 14 offensive linemen are upperclassmen. Ideally, you want to sign freshman to replace rising juniors since it almost always takes at least a full year, and usually two, for linemen to develop the size and strength needed to compete in the SEC.
In 2013 we project to have five seniors and probably three of those will be starters. I'm comfortable with Richardson and Jackson's potential, but Pair has shown nothing so far and it's unknown how the redshirt frosh will fare. And if you factor in an average attrition rate, we'll likely lose one or two players along the way.
So we'll start 2014 with five or six guys plus whoever we sign next year, most of whom will be redshirt freshmen in '14. Add a few true frosh (who almost certainly won't be ready to play) and you could find yourself precariously thin if a rash of injuries strikes.
In Fulmer's last few years, our OL depth was insufficient -- and sometimes dire -- due to a combination of low signing numbers, poor talent evaluation, injuries, and attrition. I'm more confident in Dooley's ability to evaluate talent, but we cannot allow ourselves to fall into the same depth predicament we were in not so long ago.
