A lot of you have been asking if there are any names to watch to fill out a few spots for the remaining scholarships for 2012 and one name that may be a possibility is Kyron Samuels.

Samuels elected to hold off from signing on signing day to see what options were open and right now it appears his options are grey shirting with either Alabama or Mississippi State or possibly signing with Auburn or Tennessee.

We talked with Samuels earlier today and he has yet to hear directly from Tennessee, but his high school coaches told him that Tennessee contacted them earlier in the week to learn of his plans.

Samuels said he's supposed to know by later tonight if Tennessee and Auburn will offer scholarships for this year. He said if they do he will have a lot to think about. Regardless of what happens he will have a decision by tomorrow morning he said.

We're not sure where Tennessee's interest is with Samuels, but it looks like there has been communication. We're supposed to catch up with him tonight once he or his coaches hear from Tennessee to determine if an offer is indeed on the table..

Thought this was interesting per espn:

"If Samuels was two or three inches taller he would be one of the most highly recruited guards this class has to offer and we actually feel due to his measurables that he will likely end up at offensive center. He reminds us of Alabama's William Vlachos who also came out undersized and undervalued, but became a premier player due to his ability, tenacity and knowledge of the game. We feel Samuels could be of similar value. He is short with a stout, wide base. Displays terrific upper and lower body strength to push the pile in the run game and anchor in pass pro vs. the bull rush. Is very technically sound and shows a finishing nasty streak. Mirrors and shows good footwork and balance. He can deliver a good initial pop and displays the ability to get solid hand placement. He has the ability to push the pile in the run game. He plays with very good pad level whether he wants to or not given his lack of height. Shows good flexibility, agility and balance; comes off the ball low and hard with the explosion to knock defenders off the line of scrimmage. Displays the foot quickness to zone block with the balance to play on his feet in space. Demonstrates good pull/trap technique with the quickness to get out in front and up-field, can locate defenders at the 2nd level and finishes with explosive results. Samuels has the tools to develop into a very productive run blocker at the next level. His nimble feet and quick hands will be an asset in pass protection as well. Shows good short set ability; can anchor and play stout against the power rush. He does not have exceptionally long arms and must be careful not to expose his chest to defenders and make sure he gets quick initial hand placement. Lacks of ideal size may be a hindrance if matched-up against premier defensive tackles at the BCS level that could overpower him. Samuels plays with a tenacious demeanor and passion. Has a chip on his shoulder and is always working to improve himself. Good prospect that we feel actually has BCS caliber upside for the right program."

This was his first year playing center for his high school.

Nope, that is what he was saying before NSD, on NSD he had the following to say:

"I did not sign anywhere this morning due to new developments and opportunities In my recruitment. just trying to make the best choice!"

Which helps back up exactly what I said about him going to prep school being far from a done deal as he said:

"But, Samuels said he likely won't sign any scholarship paperwork until Friday.

Alabama, Auburn and Georgia Tech asked Samuels to postpone signing until later this week. By then, one or more of those schools may have room for him in the Class of 2012. If that comes through, he could then sign.

If not, Samuels said he will play this fall at EMCC and likely transfer in January."

With him postponing his signing later than he initially said in that article, and the fact that he said later on national signing day what I posted earlier another option coming open and him not going to prep school is definitely a possibility.

Kid has talent and wanted a UF offer but never got it because of grades. If his grades are in order I hope UF offers.

No matter what he said he is waiting on Tennessee and Auburn to see if he gets the offer. Kid could be an elite center.

By grades do you mean not having the grades to get through the NCAA clearinghouse or he could not get admitted to Florida?

just posted what the kid said on NSD to his local paper. I hope UF throws it's hat into the race. The kid was a beast at FNL.

This is from one of our pay sites on NSD.

Fairhope OL Kyron Samuels told me he will attend East Mississippi C.C. for one semester and then enroll at Mississippi State in January.

FWIW he was never offered a scholarships from UA and his uncle is Chris Samuels who played for UA. He really wanted one from UA and came on an OV in Jan but was never offered.

The kids family is huge UA fans and his uncle was an All American for UA and played in the NFL. AU was never a top choice for him. AU only signed 21 I think, even though they did sign like 5 OTs, but they have room since AU missed on so many kids. I have also never heard grades were a concern only size with him.
