12' IN QB Gunner Kiel

Two SEC titles and three major bowl appearances, plus the greatest comeback win in UT football history.

And he was good enough to play football for a living for about 15 years after he graduated, even if it was in the bush league.

Andy Kelly was pretty darn good. But he is certainly the exception, and not the rule, where in-state talent at quarterback is concerned.

I think that Todd Helton had a chance to be a good QB, but being a potential Hall of Fame baseball player derailed his football career.

Kiel has picked up a UGA offer.

"I have watched Georgia quite a bit and they seem like they usually have a great team. I watched Matthew Stafford play a lot and he was a very good quarterback for them and I really like Coach Richt's background. I am excited about the offer and I am definitely interested in them."

"The distance does not matter to me at all, so every school that offers me right now is my favorite school, but the education I can get will matter along with how the coaches get along with their players, how the players respond to the coaches, and how tight the team is as a unit. I am a team first guy and I do not care about individual play, so I want to go somewhere that plays as a team."

This will be our boy for next years class. Bray, Worley, Gunner; great line of QBs IMO.

...and have I said, great QB name.

Man I like Gunner. I've watched some interviews on him and he seems like a great kid. Humble personality, carries himself well and a baller on top of that. We're already really involved but I think we really get involved with him next year. Not to mention he's in Chaney's stomping grounds being from IN.

If he was a LB or a DT or a RB I'd be worried about the bammers, they don't have as much sway over QBs.

Coaches from Boston College, Notre Dame, & Purdue have been by Kiels school.

On him getting a Bama offer

"I was super excited and very thankful that they have interest in me and I'm very blessed I got the offer. I called Coach Saban last night and talked to him a little bit. He said he watched the film, liked what I was about and I was a good kid with a lot going for me."

When it comes to his recruitment, he is going to take the same care as he does with a football. He is not rushing anything and not forcing one into coverage.

"I sit down with my parents and we talk about it. Right now, I'm not really at a point of making favorites. I don't have top school yet. I'm still really open to everyone."

Helton was not a very good QB at all. He was treading water while the freshmen crammed to get ready.

Manning is 6'5, correct?

There's no way that Gunner's 6'4. Even with a helmet on, the top of his head comes to Peyton's eyes. The kid may not even be 6'0 tall. Are we sure the kid in the pic with Peyton is Gunner Kiel?

Yes, this kid is AT LEAST 6' 3" maybe 6' 4". I ate with him and his dad at the Tennessee recruiting meal before the Alabama game. The kid is a monster; I'm 6'2" and he was quite a bit taller than me...doesn't look like a quarterback but apparently he's a great one.

BH thinks Tennessee's board is 1. Kiel 2. Pike 3. Brewer

Good. Kiel is better than Pike. He'd also very likely be the heir apparent to Bray if he were to choose Tennessee. It would be a great situation for him. Perfect fit for Cheney's offense.

Pike has more raw talent. He will be amazing with some real coaching. I prefer Pike over Kiel.

I disagree. I've seen Pike about 4 times at Dixie Heights. I'm not overly impressed. I'm not saying he isn't a good prospect, but I think Kiel is a much better one. He reminds me a lot of the busts at QB that have come out of this area in recent years.

I've been a Worley fan for a long time but if you get a chance with Kiel you take him and shouldn't be surprised if he bumped Worley for sure.

I wouldn't say he's not any good. I just think Kiel is an absolute can't miss elite talent at QB. And like I said a perfect fit for Cheney's offense.

Wasn't Crompton supposed to be an absolute can't miss elite talent at QB? Just sayin sometimes it just doesn't work out that way. I am not saying that I don't want to get him, I do. I just don't know he's that much better than Worley that it's a given he beats him out if he comes to UT. I say the more good competition for starting QB, the better.
