4* and #27 on 247 composite ranking for class of 2012. Transferring from GT and Tennessee is in heavy pursuit of him, they look likely to get 1 of his 5 OV's and are putting the "full court press" on him according to VQ. He will have to sit out a year.

Listed at 6'8" 247lbs, a redshirt year would be good for Carter as he definitely could get into some better shape and improve conditioning, but there's no questioning the talent level.

Here's his 247 profile coming out of high school when he signed with Georgia Tech... Robert Carter

Here's his numbers from his first 2 years at Georgia Tech:

Freshman: 26.4mpg 9.9ppg 6.7rpg 44.6%fg 28.1%3pt 62.2%ft

Sophomore: 26.8mpg 11.4ppg 8.4rpg 46.7%fg 26.4%3pt 65.3%ft

Should be able to sell immediate playing time with the fl gulf guy here only one year. Who you think is gonna be the main comp for him?

Where did you see that he will have to sit out a year? I know that is generally the case, but this article says that he was released to schools outside of the ACC and Georgia. Robert Carter talks about why he left Georgia Tech | www.ajc.com

(I am probably wrong, but I thought if you sit out a year, you can go wherever you would like.)

In the AJC article, center DeMarco Cox is graduating and leaving Ole Miss to transfer. Wonder if Tennessee would be interested since Al Pinkins was his coach last year. He is a big boy and my not fit Tyndall's style.

Never mind, just asked and Ole Miss still has to release him to an SEC school, even as a grad transfer. So no to Tennessee. I was wrong in that I thought you could go anywhere as a grad transfer.

You always have to sit out a year unless a hardship is granted

Ok, so why does the article say he was granted a release? I thought if you sit out a year, you could go wherever you wanted, but you seem to be saying that even after sitting out a year, your previous school can keep you from going to another school in the same conference.

Yeah, I thought that if you transferred schools because the school you were at didn't offer the master's program that you wanted, then you could go somewhere else (Antonio Barton for instance)

Unfortunately, Carter also has his fair share of weaknesses, many of which are correctable, but are not in line with this team's philosophy. For one, he showed up significantly out of shape, as it didn't take long until the altitude of Colorado Springs took the wind out of him. His intensity level in general leaves a lot to be desired, as you regularly see him jogging up and down the court lackadaisically, not having too many qualms about getting beat up the floor by opposing big men. His defense and rebounding weren't up to par with some of the other big men in this setting, largely due to his average motor.

If you continue your current rate of posting on Volnation, you will reach BTO's current post count in the year 8014 AD

Heard one of the talking heads say Auburn and Pearl is where he's likely to end up.

Here is a question for ya.

How come Trey Golden (under academic scrutiny) could transfer to GT and be immediately eligible.

I've still never heard that one explained.

So if Donnie is wanting him this bad and putting the full court press on what're you suggesting? That Tyndall is reaching on a guy he shouldn't, or that maybe Tyndall feels he can get more intensity out of him?

Graduate transfers are allowed to transfer after they graduate and not sit out a season, assuming they still have a year of eligibility remaining.

If you're just transferring, first you have to get granted your release. Schools can limit which schools you're allowed to transfer to. Then you have to sit out a year unless you are granted a hardship waiver and granted immediate eligibility.

Schools still have to grant you a release to go to a school, if you go to a school they don't release you to you have to pay your own way.

Unless he receives a hardship or has graduated, neither will happen, he has to sit out a year like every other transfer.

There is a transfer exception in which the school and coach agree that the player would not be welcomed back to the team, but is in good academic standing, and if all parties sign off, he may transfer without penalty.

It has a name, but I can't think of it.

What do you mean without penalty?

GT granted a release
The release allows other schools to contact Carter
GT blocked UGA from contacting in the release though
If GT didn't release him, Carter would not be allowed to be contacted by other schools per NCAA guidelines.
The transfer rule still applies

Trae Golden received a hardship waiver

Just posting the other side of the coin.

Just posting the other side of the coin.

Right, he's definitely got some concerns which is why I posted about him needing to get into shape. With all the benefit of the doubt Tyndall is getting I would think most would see this as Tyndall's gonna whip him into shape and give him a new motor.

Many would see it that way.

He has to sit out a year, regardless. The release just means he can go wherever he wants and not have to pay his own way. If the player is not released, or if he wants to go to a school that is on the list of restrictions, then he cannot be on scholarship the first year. The only way around sitting out a year is you have graduated and are enrolling in a Masters program or you make a hardship appeal to the NCAA.
