That is life though, I know that is all it takes but you are going to have people who have it out for you all your life.. If you let some redneck from Bucksnort say "you suck" at being a moderator on Volnation.. are you going to move on to moding at tiger droppings?
I am totally against bashing or saying negative things about high school kids.. you won't find me saying anything negative about a recruit as far as talent goes.. or anything for that matter, it is wrong to put down kids.. those that do it on here should re-evaluate their life.
I would just hope that kids would not let public opinion keep them from going to place where they are happy.
MZTERRY, thanks for all your insights and for confirming what most of us suspected. It saddens me to know that we lost even one young man because of the venomous comments of a few. The vast majority of VN are people I'd like to have over to the house for dinner, or a beer, or both! It's just so easy to be hateful behind a keyboard and the cloak of anonymity. If we could disagree without making it so personal, but what the hell, I imagine the rules of "cyber engagement" aren't going to change and there will continue to be a few whose posts make most of us cringe when we read them.
I know I may be in the minority here, but any kid who lets what is said on a message board effect the biggest decision in their early adult life, is either WAY too picky or is not being advised very well.
This is an anonymous fan driven message board, and is also very opinionated. If anyone lets anything said on here, or other message boards for that matter, effect their lives in any way, shape, or form, then you should probably step back and take a look at what is important in your life. If it's what's said on a message board, you should probably focus on something different.
It's pretty obvious that Jason was advised very well (thank you Mama Croom), and got the info he needed from the school, coaches, and family, which is how it should be.
Here is the way I look at it. If a recruit is down to 2 schools. Why would you want to say something stupid in a public forum, where said person can see, that could potentially cause that person not to come to the school you cheer for?
If you were choosing between 2 restaurants, one got great reviews and the other had 20 piss poor reviews, which would you choose? By the logic of some, they gonna get food poisoning and drinks spilled on them that night.

This is an anonymous message board... how do you even know they are UT fans?
I could simply go onto another fan's message board and bash kids they are recruiting... who would know the difference.
Maybe this is something mods should crack down on... no sense in bashing an 18 year old kid anyways.
Part of what he is saying is that any fan (Gator, Bama, Georgia, Etc.) can get on our message board and post negative BS and have a UT avatar and screenname. When you log in you don't have to get a blood test to see if you bleed orange or not...
I agree with that. But there are plenty of dumb UT fans on here too. They think what they say doesn't affect things.
Sometimes you have to see things from a parents point of view. Doesn't matter who is saying it, the point is its being said about their son.

There should be a test.
Which radio personality do you listen to?
A. Clay Travis
B. Jimmy Hyams
C. Tony Basillyho
D. None of the above
If someone picks A, then their computer is shut down with a virus and they should just give up hope for sanity. If they pick B, they get slapped with a 30 day ban and lifetime therapy is recommended. If they pick C, refer to A. If they pick D, they can post.
This test should weed out your idiots.
Now you said something in this one!!
We don't let Croomster read the boards. I never wanted his decision based on anything said in cyberspace. The only thing that he reads are the articles I print out or order fromt he newspapers and tv stations. The decisions we made on UT was EASY..... I promise y'all it was like no other school we visited. I can't stress that enough. They leave the recruitment up to you. They didn't make a whole lot of promises and smoozing and mess. They understood me the minute the conversations began. I told them what I wanted and they told me what they needed and expected. They haven't shown me anything different yet, and I respect and appreciate that.

Mzterry:
I don't know if anyone has started a thread like this before, but I think it would be interesting to read a thread that discussed what exactly happens during an unofficial visit at UT, during an official visit at UT, etc. I think most of us on here would be interested to read about the details of those experiences. If that's something you could do to satisfy our curiousity, we would all be appreciative.
That seems like we might hear trade secrets that might not want to be disclosed.
Difference is, with restaurants, they sell a service that anyone can try. Not everyone is going to be recruited to play D-1 SEC level football, therefore you have to be careful how and where you get your info from. I use Urbanspoon.com all the time to look up restaurants, and their rating system is pretty well setup. Went to Nick and J's Cafe in Farragut this past Saturday, and it was top notch.
The recruit and parents have 90% control of how they want any visit to go whether it official or unofficial.Mzterry:

Using us as the example, Jason and i got what we needed in the very first visit to UT. i made a spreadsheet of pros and cons of everyschool, and i had a list of questions that had to br met, UT answered everyone day one. From there on every visit just built our relationship. The only difference for us from the official is I didnt have to pay for it for the first time.
Recruiting is in the recruits hands. Its not about fun and games all the time, they need to know what they want from the school they'll choose.
Where do i fit in?
How do i fit in?
Do they have my curriculm?
What's their academic plan for my graduation?
How are tutors and note-takers chosen?
What arr the meal plans?
Just a few questions on our lists

Huh? Really? Then that leaves Santos, unless I am forgetting someone.
