'12 GA WR Charlie Hegedus

Simple and concise. I like it.

So, why Alan Carson and not, say, Mo Couch?
Everybody is excited about Couch and for the most part, we know what were going to be getting out of him. Carson is more of a project. Take a year to redshirt if possible and get in shape and I think he will be great for us.

Forgive the new guy here.

I happen to agree with you about Carson. I'm hopeful, anyway.

So given the justification that Carson could be a nice project that could redshirt and contribute after some seasoning, why not the same for Hegedus?

Given our current WR situation and those we're recruiting, couldn't we take Hegedus as a project, like we did Carson? I'd also argue that it seems we could more afford to take a project at the WR position rather than DT, which is a bigger position of need, no?

Like I said, I really don't know one way or the other. Just wondering.

:dance2:..Very great point my man..I like Hedegus alot. Hope we dont miss the boat with him.

The way I look at Hegedus is if we miss out on guys like Bowles, Patterson, Croom, and Crane then yeah sign the kid up. I don't think he's a guy that's going to come to UT and make a difference for us. What I don't understand is why everybody on the board is so in love with him.

Kid is fast, has good size, runs good routes and is very intelligent. What else could you want in a WR. And has good hands.Just like your love for your boy Carson, nothing wrong with that. Hope he pans out and becomes an AA at UT, but he's just not that impressive from his film. But once kids get into college and get real coaching and into a college workout plan you never know whats going to happen. We def need carson to contribute sooner than later. Just dont understand the dislike for him. He is much highly recruited and thought of than Carson ever was.

Hey, that's cool man. I get what you're saying and can appreciate your opinion. Aim small, miss small, as they say.

I appreciate Greg Phillips updates, though, and hope he keeps them up.

I totally get Bowles and Patterson. I can see Croom, but why do you prefer Crane over Hegedus? I like Hegedus's make up better - plus I like the Printz connection.

Honestly I like Crane better because of his film. Looks to have better "football speed" than Hegedus. Maybe Hegedus has improved a lot since last season but why aren't the coaches offering him if he has improved so much and showed out at their camps?

I thought Hegedus looked a little stiff (partly because of underthrown passes), but I didn't notice any difference in speed. It's hard to tell from highlights though.

I like that Hegedus lives closer, and that he has family with UT connections. It's just easier to see him balancing the pressure college and football.

The offer question is fair enough. I guess everyone still looks at him as a fall back.

Still think he gets an offer, but if they feel good about Croom,Patterson and Bowles then who knows. We easily could take 4 WR's in this class. Would not be out of the realm of possibility.

In the summer I don't think all of the coaches are in town as often at the same time to go over the recruiting list. I believe they intend on making decisions after the July camp. Unless a recruit is already high on the list, he isn't going to move into an offer category without discussion among all the coaches. An offer at one position would likely mean less offers in another position. I'm sure that the expected NCAA violations results also enter into that discussion.

I'm not sure what "football speed" is. I know Charlie's speed has increased since last football season, but not so much that you would see it on a high-lite film. I just think that different players have a different running style, making some of them deceptively fast. That's why coaches want to put a stop watch on recruits. You depend on the stop watch, not the film. On film...you never know how fast the other players are, and players with shorter steps appear faster.

For instance...when I played as an offensive lineman we would watch film on the opposition paying attention to the speed of the linebackers so we would know how to gauge our cutoff angles when blocking the linebackers. We were preparing against Ga Tech and watching film of them playing Pittsburg. A running back broke it up the middle and left both linebackers in the dust....I think, wow, those linebackers are really slow. I get up and check their speed on the depth chart and it says they run a 4.5 and a 4.6, which was really fast for a linebacker back then. I'm scratching my head and ask someone who that running back was. It turns out he was Tony Dorsett and runs like a 4.3. Soooo....it's all relative.

Printz isn't the only recruit Hegedus has connections with. He's made many friends on the camp circuit and there's a certain AL S that would like to come here if Heg does.

I have a hard time believing that one guy could sway AL S to UT.

Could be wrong, though. :hi:

IF: Hegendus = Elston + Printz

THEN: Hegendus > Crane

THEN: Hegendus + Bowles + Patterson + Croom = Fine by me.

I am almost as anxious to see Lassiter HS first game of the year as I am our own. Printz and Hegedus have played 7/7 together all summer and have dominated almost every game. The implications could be huge for UT
