Henderson was going to be a EE, right? If so, that's really not leaving much time at all. If the staff does this to Redding or anyone else, I hope they go ahead and do it sooner rather than later.

That said, if we can get better talent, then it was the right move. And I'm glad Dooley was man enough to have the conversation himself rather than making an assistant coach do it.

No, but your a smart guy and can understand what the below statement means:

"I talked to coach Dooley and he told me the deal that they were looking ati probably three or four linebackers and they were going to keep evaluating and offer from there.

I read that as saying he didn't expect to be the only LB we signed. How do you read it?

To me, they were in the process of evaluating 3-4 other LBers and their ranking and number of LBers they wanted to sign was still up in the air. Nothing set in stone.

CDD worked under Saban and it looks like he learned nothing. Learn how the recruiting game is played. Sign them up and then run them off after a couple of years if they don't develop the way you like. Cutting kids doesn't get near the attention as pulling a kid's Scholly because you think you found somebody who you think may be better.

What method does UGA and Richt use?

That's what they were doing but IMO not way what they were saying to a kid they were trying to get to commit. Get the commitment by selling VFL and then let the numbers work out later. This is just that.

I hate it for the kid, he obviously wanted to be a VFL but this is part of recruiting. So many on this board speculated on who would be told to look around for months now and Henderson's name was always mentioned as one of the possibilities but now that it's actually happening folks are upset?

At the end of the day coaches have to do whats best for the product on the field, they have to win games, and if they feel they have a better LB ready to be a Vol they have to make room. Recruits can change their minds whenever they choose, why can't the coaches? Damned if you do damned if you don't...

Good luck, Khalid :hi:

Very good post. My negative comments on this situation are directed at the posters that think the staff doesn't do anything remotely "dirty" in recruiting. I fully support cutting kids loose and I will do so even if its NSD when they do it but that also means I won't question a kids(Autry) character for changing his mind to go elsewhere if he so chooses.

This isn't "dirty" Bruin. It hurts the kid. But it is just the reality of things. We all know that DD needs more SEC ready players to get UT back to the top quickly. This kid is a raw talent project that won't be ready for a couple of years.

There's two sides to every story. We don't know what was said to Henderson before, during, or after his commitment. Because the coaches are not permitted to publicly comment on recruits, we only know Henderson's side of the story. Any insight from Skeeter, SpringBokVol, or OCIVol would be appreciated regarding the other side of the story. I'll hang up and listen.

Its kinda funny the one's bi**hing about the "product on the field" are complaining about telling a kid to look elsewhere for better talent. Kids hijack us by signing with another team after being committed to us.

I agree with all you say here and support the staffs decision, but If it hurts the kid isn't that dirty?

The day before NSD imo yes dirty but he still has time to "pimp his product" to other schools. Is it dirty when recruits sign with another team on signing day after tell the coaches hours before they were all Vols?

Everybody makes the best decision for themselves. Will it be dirty yes but it works both ways. That's my point. That kid has every right to change his mind even if its dirty.

No. If you take a test that gets curved so that a 55% is passing... and you get a 54% then it hurts you. But there's nothing dirty about it. You didn't do well enough to make the cut.

I was actually pretty excited about this kid's up side. But he IS a project and sometimes they don't work out. Almost EVERYONE here thought Brimfield was a GREAT project type of player. CJ Fleming is another guy that was really expected to become a good player.

I feel bad for him. But this is just a reality of recruiting EVERYWHERE. I'm sure there's some heartbroken kid in North Dakota somewhere who lost his place with the Fighting Sioux... just no one cares.

Exactly

We are on the same side here other than the use of the word dirty. You said this hurts the kid and I described that hurt with the word dirty. If you don't like that word that's fine, but I think a kid that gets hurt is dirty.

The better discussion is how many times can the staff do this before bridges are burned at these hs? What do we know about this hs and Cross's hs?
