Its easy to teach, but thats always the 1st skill out the window when kids get down.

It's important but, instincts and intelligence will only get you so far in the Sec. To win championships, you have to have freak athletes that can run to the ball.

Internet tough guys and smartasses give me a chuckle...

There are folks here who coach, thus watching a ton of film. I was simply pointing out the things that jumped out...both good and bad. Sorry if that upsets you or clutters up your board. I tend to do that a lot, so you may want to go ahead and put me on ignore now.:good!:

Also when you are watching highlight tape keep in mind that every player on the high school level that is considered a D-1 prospect is going to have at least somewhat of a "good" tape. You could make an argument that every guy that signed with a D-1 school last year looked solid / good on tape.

But it's also not that difficult to watch a tape and differentiate the elite caliber athletes and talents from the good/solid high school players.

I just don't see where you guys are getting that he is athletically challenged. He is listed at 6'2" 215 as a 17 year old. He will only get faster and stronger before he even plays a down in college. He looked just as fast and quick in his video than Nick Dawson does. Henderson will probably be 6'3" 225 before he gets on campus

Sure didn't hurt Brandon Spikes with that 5.06 40 time. Instincts help you run to the ball especially when you are not fast like Spikes wasn't.

It's obvious some on here dont even think people should be allowed to share their opinions.

You can pick them out from a mile away though.
It's the same ones time and time again.

They spend every thread complaining about what people say if it's not from viewed thru the orange tinted glasses they are wearing.

And then eventually they start taking things off subject and taking personal shots at people... how we know absolutely nothing, we are clueless, etc, etc, etc...

I posted this in the other thread, but here's my analysis of the video I saw:

Solid player. Not explosive tackler, but won't miss many. Great angles. Good instincts. Sheds blockers well.

He has the frame to add 15-20 lbs.

GA 5A class is not a joke. He's doing this against the best players in GA.

Good points. I personally look for specific behaviors/capabilities. Simply beating your competition in general isn't enough unless you have first hand knowledge of the level of competition.

40 times are meaningless because it depends on the track you run them on and whether it is electronically timed or hand timed... When I coached high school football I had a number of kids that would go to one camp and run a 4.5 and then attend another a week later and run over a 5.0... Instincts do matter, dont get me wrong on that, but 40 times are useless because they are never accurate.

As for Brandon Spikes, one thing I do know about him is that he had offers coming out of high school from every single elite football program in the country. I dont think many coaches felt the kid was athletically inferior coming out of high school. He didn't play that way in college either IMO.

Again, I agree. I was referring to why a player doesn't use the techniques that they are coached to use. In most cases, a player has bad technique BECAUSE of there talent/atheleticism. They could get away with bad technique at the high school level because they are so much stronger/faster/exc. But when a college player doesn't use that technique that they are coached to use, it's the fault of discipline or intelligence. If you ask me, the discipline is the responcibility of the coaches and I think that's what Dooley was saying also.

Very true.

I think if you go in looking at a players tape with the perspective that he's considered a D-1 prospect and that he's going to at least look somewhat good, then it becomes a lot easier to differentiate to what you are seeing between the elite level guys and the mid level BCS or non-BCS D-1 guys.

Agreed he was physically imposing but not that fast. Alabama exploited that weakness of his in the SECCG, where they made him extend east and west. I will withhold judgment on Henderson because he has yet to run the camp circuit (supposed to be in Clemson soon). I do, however, feel like Dooley, Thompson, and Sirmon are some very good evaluators of talent.

Henderson can be a quality back up. Don't think he will ever be a starter here. Think he has good instincts, and is a fairly impressive athlete. I'm happy to have him, as his commitment fills one slot at a position of need. Now give me Peters, Dawson, and Lewis and I think we have a good LB class. Henderson is good, but we definitely have to get LBs that are more talented.

Also for those guys that feel uneasy about his offer list or God forbid his Rivals rating please go take a look at the other elite SEC teams and see if you can find guys like Henderson. They all have them (Bama, Auburn, LSU, Georgia). Georgia even has two commits that don't even have another offer.

Using a clip of 10-15 plays to base an opinion on a kid is funny. Believe it or not. I know there's room for opinions on a messageboard, not saying there isn't. Just always find it humorous when people claim a kid is great or a kid can't play based on a 2:00 clip. Your opinion is whatever you draw from the kid's clip, and my opinion is it's funny.

I know it's obvious, but the evaluation process is much much deeper than that.
