However, hate to burst your bubble but an open dislocation is real and possible - especially in the finger and in contact sports. The injury Peterman experienced is very similar, if not the same, to the one Kyle Orton experienced in 2009 - "NFL sources said that while Kyle Ortons injured finger was not fractured, the Broncos quarterback suffered an open dislocation (meaning it penetrated the skin) of the right knuckle."

Also, see enotes which sites various nursing and surgical encyclopedias saying, "Additionally, a dislocation may be open or closed. This refers to the skin overlying the joint, meaning that an open injury is one in which the joint surfaces are exposed to the environment outside the body. An open injury..."
I prefer not to use the term "hacked" in this case, my friend... but instead say, "You, have just been lawyered."
