'12 Fl LB Kenneth Bynum (UT commit 2/15)

They could possibly land a higher rated LB in 2013. They could also lose them close to signing day and end up short again.

This 3 star 6'1 220lb LB is being served up on a silver platter with no fight for his signature. I say take him.

Agreed. BYnum is a take for no other reason than to make sure we don't run into the same scenario next year which would really leave us in a pinch.

Keep in mind its not just Santos and Peters, we lost Dawson to USC the year before that. We have not had a lot of luck recruiting at the LB position(save Johnson and Maggitt).

I don't think it's a given that he is a Vol either. I don't think the staff has even seen this kid in person. Look what happened to Gionni Paul. We all thought he was a Vol until apparently he came on the visit and the staff realized he was too small.

Good point. We'll just have to wait and see, I guess.

With CSS coming in I do believe that this could change for us.

I would like to believe that. He did fail this year in keeping our 2 best LBs on board. Yes, I know he only had a month to get to know them, but it did only take Arkansas 1 visit to flip Otha. Santos may have flipped to Texas no matter who our DC/LB coach was. Recruiting LBs to Bama is alot easier than recruiting them to Tennessee given where each team is currently.

I would rather have a project RS freshman playing in 2013 than a good true freshman like we have had for 3 years. If the UT SC program can put 20 pounds on this guy by next year, he's going to be as good on the field in 2013 as any four star, even if his ceiling is lower. We need to stop playing with the best high school team in the country and get some college athletes on the field.

They should hold the scholarship for next year IMO. Could get a much better quality LB in the '13 class.

We are still a young team. Our roster is now back up to the 85 limit I'm assuming.. Not being sure how many we will lose next year due to graduation/attrition. Will we be able to sign a full class next year and if not, does it do any good to hold on to a scholarship from this year? Admittedly I do not know how all this works with the numbers but if you can't sign a full class due to the 85 limit, you can't back count, right?

Montrell, somebody... Help me out here...

The way I have understood the rule is that if a school has room under the 85 the EE don't count toward the 25 limit. Which would mean a school with 55 returning scholarship players could bring in 5 EEs and then sign 25 more getting the total to 85.

Bring in Dunaway next year, he will make up for Santos. This guy isn't good enough, save the roster spot.

Don't know where everyone got the idea that Dunaway is a gamebreaker or the end all be all but I just don't see it. As far as Bynum goes, a dollar today is far greater than a dollar at some point in the future. Too many variables to play with to predict in the future. What I do know IS Dooley and company must win now! This young man played at an exceedingly high level in one of the most talent laden areas of the country. If he's willing to 'give his all for Tennessee' sign him up. With the way some ppl talk you'd think we went 11-2 last yr instead of 5-7.

Get this kid if you can. UT will still have 3 to back count for next season.

Plays in a 3/4 scheme, Physical Lb with good speed and coverage skills. Could add 20 more pounds with his frame. On the cusp of state wrestling title. Could be a great addition to this class IMO.

First I have read about being a standout wrestling contender. Those kind of kids almost always have some characteristics that aren't measurable. The more I learn about this guy the more I like him.

We need another LB and this kid wasn't our first choice, but he's no slouch. He had a decent offer list. He was somewhat under the radar, because he decided to commit on his 1st visit.
We're going to a 3-4, and we need backers. I say close him down and we still have 3 extra spots for next year.

I agree 100%

Another thing, I saw alot of people saying we shouldn't have let Khalid Henderson go, but Bynum is roughly the same size, is rated higher by Rivals, had a much better offer list, is very teachable and catches on quickly, plays against stiffer competition, and both are good defending the pass.

So, if you were of the opinion that you liked Khalid or that we shouldn't have let him go, then I don't know how you don't like this offer.

The staff most def saw Paul in person before his official visit. They got greedy and thought a bigger/better LB would be available.

He was, except he bolted to USC

My thoughts exactly.

I'm glad someone knows how to give their opinion in a straight-to-the-point couple of sentences rather than have to write paragraphs haha.

So you think the staff was holding out for somebody like Lamar Dawson instead? I thought it was clear several teams passed on Paul.

No one passed on Paul. He verbally to asu, them Miami offered him and he signed there
