lmao and by your logic that makes bynum getting an offer from them even better. if not, why not snag anyother "3*"

why choose this guy? because they see potential. if you know you will strike out on top tier kids you would offer the next guy who u feel could grow and excel.

look at those defenders Zook put in the league. thats not UF either

youre so off base here its not even worth discussing anymore.

Definitely a take. He may not play much this year but with a year hitting the weights he could bulk up and turn into a solid OLB. Hes pretty fast and would be a good blitz option or passing down type LB.

I don't know why you keep on trying to give me stats off of who Zook and Davis put in the league. That has nothing to do with my point or anything. I've already agreed about 3 times with you that they can evaluate and produce defensive talent. But 12 players in 7 years? 6 defensive players and two went 1st round? I mean I guess that is solid. I certainly wouldn't call that impressive at all though. Has nothing to do with it anyway.

And I have no idea how you think "by my logic Bynum getting an offer from them is even better". You must not be reading what I am typing correctly. To them, Bynum was another 3* player. Another roster filler. Not a program changer or some under the radar talent that they felt they were getting a steal on.

So if Fulmer gets a HC job at Syracuse this offseason, and offers a 2013 3* LB. Are you going to say that 3* LB is the real deal because he has a Fulmer offer and Fulmer coached Deon Grant, Leonard Little, Al Wilson, Eric Berry, and Jerod Mayo while Fulmer was at UT? I know Fulmer wasn't a defensive guy, but it proves my point. Fulmer would be in a completely different situation and enviroment w/ recruiting at Syracuse then he was at UT. Just like Davis and Zook are in a different recruiting situation @ UNC and Illinois then they were at Miami and UF.

A coach can only work/recruit with what he is given (assistant coaches/facilities/locations/history/prestige). Davis and Zook were both obviously in worse coaching situations then they were earlier in their careers. Davis can't recruit the Ray Lewis, the Jonathon Vilma, or the Dan Morgan @ LB to UNC like he could at Miami. At UNC, he was recruiting Bynums and other high 3*/low 4* players.

I personally wish UT would keep the scholarships for next year rather than take Bynum, but that is just my opinion. I trust the UT coaching staff, and if they think Bynum is a take, then I'd be happy with that. They know more that I do for sure.

But that's the last I'm saying about it. I appreciate you as a VN poster Jay and I'm not trying to get in a pointless arguement on here. I got my point and opinion and if you can't understand or agree w/ it, then that's that.

Regardless, a redshirted player is twice the player of a true freshman hands down. A 3 star athlete redshirted, plays like a *4 star or better 90% of the time

(yes that statistic was taken from thin air. I'm a fan of gratuitous stats to sound official.)

I think he ends up a Vol. Cinci signed over 30 kids today and depending on which site you look at, he is no longer listed on their board as even being still committed. 6'1 and 220 at LB is something the coaches can work with.

with lower margin for error, and a coach not beimg able to land elite prospects, wouldnt it make sense that the 3* kids they offer would have the most potential and tools that would be able to be developed?

if u just told me zook isnt able to recruit top notch kids and i jist showed u 7 kids on defense he sent to the nfl does that not show an excellent eye for spotting kids with potential?

you dont have to answer, rhetorical questions

What are we looking like here?

IMO we're in the catbird seat. His dad appeared to be really excited about the offer as did he. Postponed signing and is visiting early next week. All we have to do is dot the i's and cross the t's on the official visit. IMO.

+1

It would not hurt to show the kid and his dad the video of some of the UT/Cinci game from last year. I remember a couple 4th and 1 plays that a LB may like to watch.

We don't need career backup caliber depth. We need competitive, solid type players adding depth to our team.

I just don't want any more roster-fillers at UT anymore. We won't ever get back to competing in the SEC if we don't add some somewhat competitive players to the depth chart.

UT already has plenty of career backups at LB. No need to take another one.

You're a big Cody Blanc fan, aren't you?

Other than the gratiuitous shot at the guys who have been developing for the past couple of years who might well emerge as very good players... I pretty much agree.

Unless the staff believes they can sign someone who is as good or better than someone they can sign next year then they should save the spot. They will need them considering how few Srs are on the roster.

Kid has a decent offer list, and he's got the physique to be a good LB. If Sal can develop him, he can be a good contributor...plus his commitment would jump us over LSU :D

Here's the thing...If we dont sign any more, that leaves 4 ships to backcount next year. But it will likely be a small class anyway, due the 85 cap. So if we sign say 20 next year, 4 of those backcounted to 2012 (with EE's) leaving a total class of 16 for 2013. So we could hypothetically sign up to 34 in 2014 (with 9 backcounted to 2013). That's not likely to happen...but to take full advantage of the current signing rules, it seems prudent to sign as many as you can every year. As long as we're not taking true reaches, it makes sense. Take Bynum if he can play, or has potential. JMO.

We all thought we would be bumping against the 25 and the 85 limits. After today we certainly should take Bynum if we can get him on board. I still believe that after the spring the roster will look much different. Some room will be made for next year's recruiting class. I think we'll sign 18-20.

Pretty sure you are limited to 3 backcounts at most
