'12 FL DB A.J. Leggett

Cliff note from Rivals National Recruiting Chat 1-31-12

Keith N. - Leggett is gonna stay with Marshall per someone close to Amos

From everything I've read from the mods on the other sites Tennessee wants to sign him tomorrow so I doubt this is the case.

My thought was that he realized there was going to be a problem getting them in and him getting enrolled through the clearinghouse. Maybe. I wasn't saying we didn't want to sign him, as I know we would definitely give it a go.

Yeah that is the only thought process I could see for him opting to sign with Marshall tomorrow over Tennessee.

Well this is a downer. I didn't really expect him to be accepted but personally I was really hoping we could pull a miracle.

Just a general question, what about Marshall allows him to sign with them tomorrow and not with us, if admission was truly the deciding factor?

Marshall is notorious for having lower academic standards. That is why they have been successful in the past. They can take kids who won't qualify at other schools.

If we don't land Leggett, it's because he chose Marshall over UT. We are not turning him away because of grade concerns because the coaches feel that issue will be resolved. Leggett may have concerns and the Marshall folks may be pressuring him to sign. Bottom line, we want him.

Absolutely. I think his grades will end up being fine as well. It may take a while to get through the clearinghouse but usually in these cases kids in this situation eventually get through. And you add the 22 ACT to that and I doubt there is much worry for the kid.

Marshall must have really done a good job of scaring the kid about his grade situation if he is indeed sticking with them.

I noticed they have about 6 guys from last year who had to sit out because of grades. I guess they can take a bunch of Prop 48 type guys. Must be something in the water in West Virginia.

I thought we said the NCAA was the one to worry about, not the institution?

The NCAA is still a huge hurdle for the kid. However, he asked why Marshall might be able/willing to take him. Honestly, I think that HG is right about the transcripts. A lot of Miami area kids have been on the radar with the Clearing House. That's what happened to Kevin Grooms from last year. He tried to enroll at Miami and they couldn't get him though the Clearinghouse.

Paul with VQ...

In talking to some people down in Florida, it seems people around him are really pushing the what if scenario and hoping he sticks with Marshall and a lot believe he will. AJ is still talking to Tennessee, but I'm not as confident as I was yesterday that he ends up with Tennessee.

Dooley can not let Marshall pull this sh*t. He needs to get him on the phone and reassure him we can get him in school and ask him. CUSA or SEC? Your choice.
