'12 FL ATH Marcus Allen

"Allen is a very good athlete with the skills to be a BCS level running back or safety. He is a smart runner that finds the holes well and a terror in the secondary at safety"-Fla Varsity.

Still, Allen is young to the game of football. With only one year under his belt, he has already made great strides and learned quite a bit.

“I just want to work on tackling. I need to improve my mechanics and fundamentals. That, and I want to understand the game better since last year was my first year playing.”
-- Scout

First year playing? Somehow I forgot this, or never realized it. Impressive.

2012 recruit Marcus Allen says he doesn't have any visits lined up right now...#vols are in good shape for him.

Ranked as the Rivals.com No.26 athlete in the country, Allen is nearing 30 offers. For him, each offer he gets still comes as a surprise.

"It was my first year to play [high school] football last year, so all the offers I've got are pretty much a surprise to me," he said. "I played [football] in middle school, I was playing basketball [the first two years]."

Allen obviously made enough of an impact on both sides of the ball to earn a scholarship offer. Which side of the ball he plays will depend where he goes, as schools like him either as a linebacker or running back. Although he prefers offense slightly more, it won't matter where he ultimately lines up.

June was a busy month for Allen, as he made visits to Georgia Tech, Clemson, Kentucky, Vanderbilt, Louisville, Tennessee and Duke. After that whirlwind tour, he won't be quite as busy the rest of the summer.

"I don't have anything planned right now, but I'm not sure what I'm going to do in the next few weeks," he said. "I'm not sure I'll be taking anymore visits."

got an offer from Free Shoes University today

They finally offered the kid after 3 camps. Guess he really wanted that offer. Wonder if they would take his commit today....Noles feel good about Lewis and Clemmons.

He is tossing around the idea of committing today:
Allen, who is looking for the best combination of academics and athletics in his future home, isn't sure if he would decide while on campus today.

"I don't know," Allen said. "Probably not today, but we will see how things go."

from my nole partna up in T-town:

the recruitment of Allen will end soon expect him to commit really really soon. also Criminoles should add Josh Clemons and after that leaves Kawain Lewis on the outside looking in.

leaving the Gators or us in a really good position for Lewis

Thanks Jay, no surprise on Allen.

Sucks he will commit to FSU, I really liked Allens potential at LB. We are still in it for some stud LB's though, need to atleast pick up 2 of them IMO.

Three camps to get an offer? He's had an FSU offer for some time now. Trust me nobody knows when and where Marcus is going except for Marcus. Duke has just a good a chance as anyone at this point.

Where does some of this 'inside' information come from?

July 20th:

"I talked with Coach (Odell) Haggins last week and he said something about it," Allen said of an offer. "When I came here today he told me straight up that they offered."

And the most recent beneficiary is three-star athlete Marcus Allen (Hilliard, Fla./Hilliard), as the 6-foot-1, 210-pounder was extended an offer Wednesday before working out at the FSU camp.

"It's a great offer to have because this is a good school and a good program," Allen said. "I really enjoyed the camp, too. I learned a few things and got to be coached up by the FSU staff."

Allen has roughly 25 offers with schools like Tennessee, South Florida, UCF, Arkansas, Nebraska, Kentucky and Louisville as part of that group. Whichever schools Allen considers once he cuts down his list will probably have to contend with the Seminoles.

"It's a good situation at Florida State because it's close to home," Allen said. "They are going to be pretty high up there."

Allen spoke to FSU linebackers coach Greg Hudson briefly during the camp session but had a longer talk with coach Jimbo Fisher.

"We had a good conversation," Allen said. "He just wanted to meet me and get a feel for my personality."

Allen said FSU is recruiting him as a linebacker and will likely receive an official visit. After a rest day, Allen will head to Gainesville to take part in Friday Night Lights.- ESPN

Marcus stated the offer came yesterday, why does anyone need a back story? Is Marcus telling a lie?

He had an offer earlier from Odell but there was a misunderstanding as to whether or not he needed to camp to get it. All I can tell you is Odell says the offer has been there for a while.
