Those of you on here the last couple of years who would criticize fans for showing concern over the fact that we didn't have very many commitments in May and June, NOW you see why!! THIS is what recruiting under a competent staff is supposed to look like! All we heard from some of you was "It's JUNE! Stop pushing the panic button! It's early! UT starts out slow and closes strong! Blah blah blah blah." Well now we're starting out strong AND finishing strong! Suck it!

It's alot more energizing to the fan base as well. I would even say that without a good recruiting class we would have had 10k fewwer at the spring game.

Don't forget "they're just waiting until we start winning. If we win 7 or 8 games these top recruits are ours."

We haven't won a single game this year and we're still pulling elite recruits.

We might have our full recruiting class around mid season. However; there may be some who won't qualify academically or some who see that they won't likely get much playing time and will go elsewhere.

The list may change some but the class we have in mid season will likely be what we end up with. In other words, no "Big Fish" in February!!!!

UT has always started slow in recruiting, even in Fulmer's good years. What Butch is doing isn't and hasn't been the norm for UT recruiting. He's doing much better, so far.

He is hitting a grand slam that the outfielders aren't moving while watching it head into the upper deck!!

I am impressed. Can they keep this up? If so this could be a top 5 ever UT recruiting class.

If they can coach as well as they can recruit (STARS MATTER), then the sky is the limit. But we need for the state to continue producing outstanding future players to get future recruiting classes off to good starts like this one.

Not a detraction whatsoever, but having some better in-state guys to get has helped a lot. I hope the state of Tennessee continues to get better, especially in the trenches.

Butch is the man tho.

They are doing an exceptionally good job but if this is just "competent" then UT has not had competent recruiting for more than 20 years. Fulmer who had the reputation of being an ace recruiter didn't have this number of high caliber commitments this early even in his glory years. The start slow/finish strong idea applied to him as he would add legacies and in-state players who weren't great prospects early then finish with a flurry of highly rated guys. Especially late in his career, those players were talented but often had severe character issues.

Recruiting has changed dramatically. Kids commit so much sooner than before. Jones is a stud but I am not ready to say he is ahead of fulmer as a recruiter yet anyway.

The commitments are not LOI's. There is a football season to be played. However, I believe the commitments will sign the line for the most part because they see themselves as leading the resurgence of UT football. It would help to seal the deal with some of them by having a 7 win season and bowl game to talk up. For doubters, please review the progress of Ole Miss.

Do mind reminding those that think I am always the negative nancy what poster was reminding you and many others that Gruden wasn't the only coach that could bring this fan base back together????

Fulmer was an ace recruiter and stood out among his peers. All efforts of yours to denigrate him are petty, wasted and erroneous. That first sentence is wrong, wrong, wrong. Why would you say such an untrue thing.

Oh look, not only do we have a fulmer slurper in this thread, but we have one that struggles with reading comprehension

This staff hasn't even coached a game yet but it is obvious that they get it. :)

Recruiting is a marathon...not a sprint, but there is a hardly a way to spin anything happening on the hill in a negative way right now.
