'12 AL DT Justin Shanks

if he's going to FSU next week

forget about this one they'll say/do anything to keep em

seems like you guys got a thing for fsu commits lol
FSU and UT have had some signing day battles for sure. Unfortunately we have lost every one of them.

I have seen Justin play a few times in Alabama so I know a little about his game. The best part of what he does is that Justin is a pure run stopper and that's what all the schools like about him the most.

What did I think will happen with what he does in recruiting?

Well all I can say is before this he was pretty much all FSU and his Prattville coaches even suggested that. I think what Tennessee did was at least give him a lot to think about. I don't see this having an impact on Goldman or an effect because Justin has never been that type of kid to worry about other players. I think to be honest I have to wait and see what Justin says a few days after the visit and what his coaches tell me to get a really strong gauge for where things really stand. I believe he likes the comfort level of Tennessee when on campus so it's a possibility but I don't want to overreact and just throw something out there about which way it could go until I speak with him in a few days. But they made a strong impression that's clear.

Playing time is important to JBear, which is his nickname. He would like to get on the field early but it's not everything. I think comfort with the DL coach is important as well.

He may still go to fsu but atleast ut gave him something to think about.and he might understand that early playing is way more likely Tennessee than at fsu.Hopefully he switch,s to a vol.

Sounds like a real solid reporter. Not jumping to any conclusions. Why can't guys like that be in Knoxville and Nashville?

I agree :good!: I live here in Nashville and all I hear is the negatives of Tennessee football and the praises of Coach Franklin and the Vanderbilt football team. Seriously, I think they need to give it up. Vanderbilt will always play second fiddle (notice the music from the MUSIC CITY). GBO and VFL!

Haven't read through this whole thread because it is huge (like all other recruiting threads) but I was wondering if anyone can explain to me why rivals has Shanks visiting both UT and FSU this weekend? Did he pass on a visit to FSU to come to UT? If so, that's a pretty big deal IMO.

He was at UT this weekend... going to be visiting FSU also, so that is trouble for UT.

I believe we gave him alot to think about until NSD, great facilities and early playing time  Would sure be a great pick-up at a position of need.

"...Justin is a pure run-stopper..."

"...give him a lot to (seriously) think about..."

"...made a strong impression..."

Sounds like Tennessee made the most of his visit. Probably a little late but the fact that we are even in strong consideration with Brown, Davis (until recently), Kirven, Shanks, among others speaks well of this staff.

GO VOLS! VFL!
