'12 AL ATH Beniquez Brown

Don't like this guy as an RB. Watched his film, not fast enough, although he has good vision and power. He would need to RS if wants to play RB at any SEC program.

I would take him at LB or S on the other hand in a heartbeat. I think MSU wins this, although Alabama is probably going to take them to the woodshed this weekend and he may reconsider.

With a year of a redshirt. Maybe we could have our own Spencer Ware. And then we could start the Brooooowwwnnn chants similar to how they did Todd Heap from the ravens (Heeeeaaaaaaappppp)

Brown has never stated that if he did not RB he would not consider the school. He just said that MSU was recruiting him at RB. The main also was that his cousin was there not playing RB.

MSU became a factor when schools like UA and AU stopped recruiting him because he waited to long to make a decision. For people that followed Brown his early leader was AU and many thought he was going to commit last spring to them, but when UA starting showing a lot of interested he delayed his decision and got an offer at UA during camps. AU backed off because of other players commiting and UA was looking to get a commit from him. He waited to long and that ship sailed. MSU is the only one that waited for him and hence why there are there. UT came in late and I feel they have a legit shot. I think if UT would have came harder in the spring he would have already commited to UA.

If AU or UA would have waited Brown would have never comsidered MSU. They became a backup plan when his spot was given to someone else at the other schools.

How do you fall from Saban to Starkville? This kid needs to make the most of this situation and come to Tennessee.

I agree. Much better Defensive Prospect than a RB prospect but the scary thing to me is I think he still would probably be the best RB prospect in this class if they landed him. I definitely want him on defense though. He's a differencer maker on that side of the ball.

Tennessee flat out needs to find a big-time RB that has big-time speed. They really seem to be struggling right now and grasping at straws with some of these tailbacks out there.

He is a really a good ATH all around, true he lacks the big time speed that we all would love to see in the backfield but we need a guy who is going to run with a mean streak that just wants to run down hill

Spencer Ware - Yahoo! Sports

Perfect example here. I know he plays for the hated "thunder cats" but he was an ATH coming out too with not the greatest speed that played qb in HS. A RS and Brown could be our version of their (LSU) Ware. JMO.

As I stated earlier in the D. Autry post, I come in peace. As I did there, I will clear some things up pertaining to Brown with MSU. First, Brown has always been interested in MSU since Day 1. He camped with us TWICE this summer. He didn't camp at Bama, UT, UF, or Auburn. That shows you that he was serious about MSU early. Secondly, we are recruiting him as an ATH. We see him as a RB first because Ballard will be graduating and we need a bruiser like Brown to fill in. We have scat backs coming back and Brown would fill a void. BUT, he also knows that we like him at OLB also and he has said that he will play anywhere we need him. Thirdly, you are correct that his cousin committed to us this summer and that's a huge plus. The thing you guys failed to mention is that Brown has been to MSU more times unofficially that I can count WITHOUT his cousin. He loves the facilities we are building and he loves our RB coach. Not saying that he won't commit to UT, but it is a slim chance.

Regardless, I still like UT's chances, and he has also said that his cousin is a non-factor if the sistuation is better for him somewhere else. You failed to mention that part. As far as facilities go, MSU can't and don't compare. We'll see when the in home visits get kicked up here in a few. Gonna be some sad singin and flower bringin when he picks us.

between what u said here and the autry thread, some kids go to camps with no interest in the school just so they can camp and get exposure. they are playing the game and theres nothing wrong with it. MSU is a good school but i would give his chances of committing to UT way more than just slim

It's hard to compare anyone to Ware. I saw him play probably 15 times in high school and the guy was a flat out special athlete. As a senior he added a little bit of unhealthy weight but he clearly dropped that since he's been at LSU. I wouldn't say he had "elite speed" but what he did have was elite balance, vision and quickness. The kid, no matter how big he was could stop on a dime and change directions. As an athlete Spencer had some of the best balance I've ever seen, something very underated and something that almost always goes unmentioned for a big-time running back.

My point is in all this we don't necessarily need a speedy back. And the biggest knack on Brown playing RB on this board is his speed unless everyone want's him on defense based on many opinions. So it's just a bit early to just rule him out at RB because he may be a diamond in the rough

Ben Brown runs behind his pads and with authority. Tennessee does not have a running back currently on the roster, or currently on the verbal commitment list with these attributes IMO. He runs a bit upright (much like Lacy from Alabama), but seems to fall fall forward most of the time. He might not have break away speed, but he will get those tough yards that Tennessee needs.

Good luck, just stating things on our end. We have nice facilities being built. Are they as good as UT's? No. But they are going to be competitive with the rest of the league. It's not a no-brainer anymore to these kids. 10 years ago, an athlete like Brown and Autry wouldn't have MSU in their top 20, let alone top 2. No way could we compete with UT for recruits. It's a new day and let's be honest, UT is not "UT" anymore.

I think Neal goes back to just rb splitting carries with Marlin. So Cross, Hill, Brown, Toney, or Tom Smith fighting for the 3rd spot.

The thing is we already have nice facilities. And building something yall may never have for another 20 years

But on behalf of all of VN we thank you for the input on why "Starkville" is where Ben Brown or even Autry wants to be.

Kids don't come to MSU to camp and get exposure. Highly touted kids like Brown go to Bama or LSU camps to get that exposure; that's where all the national recruiting services send reps to evaluate. An MSU camp only draws a few of those reps.

I admitted that you have better facilities than us. Your stadium is twice as big as ours right now. Your prestige is 100X better than ours. So why does Brown or Autry(and Redmond and Croom for that matter) have to think about a decision between UT and MSU?

Whoa! I forgot you said you were new to VN. Croom is all but locked up for next year i mean his mom has an acct. on VN, in his thread she posts everyday. Redmond committed to you guys yes, was probably even a priority for you guys but we have the luxury of recruiting over him.

I know Croom is committed to UT. My question was why did he even have to think about it along with Redmond and the rest of the recruits because your facilities are better, your stadium is twice as big, and your prestige is 100X better?

It's what recruiting is. I think your beginning to overthink this a bit now :nono:

Not trying to make the MSU fan unhappy but he is bringing alot of incorrect information to your baord so let me correct some of his statements.

First MSU you did not become a serious contender until he attended their camp in June. The first time he names MSU in his top 3 was in late June. MSU was not a factor until some others backed off. UA was always his leader and still would be if UA wanted him. We just do not have the room and if he would have commited in before school started he would be a part of UAs class. And BTW he is still visiting UA games.

Aug 24th from Brown himself

I have offers from Alabama, Arkansas, Auburn, Florida, Georgia, Mississippi State, Vanderbilt and Tennessee," Brown said. "I have narrowed that list down to MSU, Alabama and Florida. I would have to say Alabama is my leader right now.

TideSports.com - Brown still favoring three

June 28th

"Things have been going good with Mississippi State, Alabama and Florida and those are my Top 3," said Brown.

June 18th about camping at UA

Beniquez Brown, four-star outside linebackr from Florence, Ala., arrived in Tuscaloosa on Sunday. He was expected to stay for one day, but informed Scout.com he will remain until Tuesday. Alabama leads for his signature.

Scout.com: Big names coming and going

June 21st camping at UF and family also came to meet and see everything

ATH Beniquez Brown visited UF with his family and came away very impressed with Gainesville. Even though he rated his UF visit a 9. he still says that Bama is his leader.

Brown visits with Florida, has a slight leader

His other camp visits which he made all of them

"Since Mississippi State's camp, I have only gone to visit Florida. But I am hitting the road next month to see some schools. I am going to Georgia on July 15th, then Alabama on July 18th and then I am going back to Mississippi State for the Big Dawg Camp on July 22nd."

TideSports.com - Brown favoring three

Now my contention is still that MSU may get Brown but by default. UA and UF filled his spot and moved on. Also the reason I like UT with Brown is that they were a contender long before MSU ever was.

March 27th

Brown names his top 3 UA, UT, and AU, no MSU mentioned in this article. MSU did not start popping up until late May.

Florence RB talks about his three favorites

From one of our posters from Brown's area that knows the family, said Dooley wanted Brown to vist camp before they would make a legit offer. Brown did not and UT backed off. Once UA and UF stopped recruiting him, it was Brown that contacted Dooley to see if they still were interested and had room. Brown really likes UT but remember no one has giving him a legit offer until last spring. It was not like everyone wanted him until well after his junior season. UA and AU both offered in Feb of this year. Like most schools UT just needed to see him play and why they wanted him at camp.

Again MSU might land Brown in the end, but do not let some fan that is posting internet assumptions convince you that UT does not have a shot. Because about every piece of info he posted I just showed was wrong with actual quotes and links to articles. Again UT has been in it since the beginning for Brown.

I appreciate your quotes, but I never said he wasn't visiting other schools or did I say we were in the lead. I just said he has been to MSU several times which he has. I did say that he camped at MSU twice, meaning he worked out both times. He did not workout at any other camp. Like many recruits, he visited camps, but Brown didn't workout anywhere but MSU. I'm sorry, I should have made that clearer.
