'11 TN TE Brendan Downs

I just read where the late great Harry Galbreath had only two schools offer him a scholarship, UT and Austin Peay. How many stars would that be today? How good did he turn out? People worry to much about stars than a kids want to. RIP HG..GO Vols..

+1 Well said! Welcome to UT Mr. Downs!

Fantastic news! Love getting in state guys that have the talent he does. Great size....welcome Mr. Downs...now lets recruit your buddy!

Looking at your description suggests that he should be rated MUCH higher than he is. That much athleticism coupled with intelligence is a rare combo.

For the star gazers who will now descend to lament another 3* pick up... Both Cottams and Stocker were 3* TE's coming out of HS.

Extremely athletic sjt. At one time he quit football to focus on basketball b/c he felt he was actually better at that than football but then started playing again b/c he missed it too much. Has been in slamdunk contests and almost won them. Very underrated kid.

From watching his highlight tapes on ESPN, he looks like a future OL, if he isn't able to at least maintain his speed while adding weight I could see him going to OL.

On one play, he lined up at TE but pulled like a guard and pancaked some kid, looked pretty good doing it.

Well not sure about the o line. 6'6" 4.7 forty with a 33" vert makes a nice target. Hopefully Stocker Version 2

Not sure about that 4.7, and he will add on more weight, that is a given, if he can't maintain his speed it is a good possibility that he ends up at tackle.

Man he only weighs in at about 215 or so. He is athletic. I have seen him in person. Really doubt he plays the line. Way too much weight to add. And the forty time is legit. Some are saying its down to 4.6 now but I can't confirm it. Ask SteelerVol what position he'll play...

hounestly he is alright. it may just bc i use to play football against TN high and they are not very D-1 talent wise and they play little tiny schools from the sticks... jumping to tennessee would be a huge leap for him but who knows...

I saw him the other day and he said he was up to 230lbs. I see him gaining another 20lbs and losing very little speed. LBs do it all the time but they're instinctive athletes. This guy is just as good an athlete but he's a cognitive athlete which is great for TE.

Witten fell to the 3rd round because of a 4.8 40 in the combine and now he's a zillionaire.

Think of Matt Jones who used to play WR for the Jags.
Brendan is a slower version of him without the cocaine.

Same argument could have been made against Heath Shuler, Carl Pickens, Shawn Bryson, Jimmy Streater, etc

The competition that THS plays is based on similar enrollment and is the same conference as Elizabethton (Jason Witten, Cowboys) as has been posted.
They also play Science Hill (Aubrayo Franklin, 49ers) and Dobyns-Bennett (Gerald Sensabaugh, Cowboys) which of course is from the highest brackett and the highest enrollment in Northeast Tennessee. Their competition schools are bigger than many of the other area schools like Powell Valley,VA (Julius Jones, Seahawks and Thomas Jones, Chiefs) or Honaker,VA (Heath Miller, Steelers). Beat DB last year and I can't remember the last time Science Hill beat THS.

Local news story confirms that Downs and Crowder will both attend UT. Interviews included. Downs said he grew up a fan of UT. Crowder said it was an easy decision for him between Vandy and UT after Bobby Johnson stepped down.

Really hate to be "that" guy, but do you have a link?
