To my knowledge only 3 freshman have started at D-B in the past 30 years. Bobby Hill in 1980 (offered by Tennessee and Alabama but chose to pursue a track scholarship), Shane Pierson in 1991 (signed with North Carolina) and Chris. In this time period D-B has produced two NFL players and two others who were drafted or free agents in NFL camps (all of whom did not play varsity as freshmen) and IMO Chris has the best potential to be the best running back at D-B by his senior season since state hall of famer and NFL record holder Bob Cifers in 1939 and Cecil "The Big Chief" Puckett in 1945, both All-Southern (equivalent to Rivals 5 Stars today for the youngsters). Roll Tribe!Chris wasn't playing against freshmen. He was playing against kids age 15-18 (probably very few 15) just like normal high schoolers. And yes, he started as a freshman. Coach Clark, to my knowledge, has never let any other freshman play with the varsity team.
Stopped playing? Last game in 2006 when South had supposedly their best team in school history with an all-american QB, D-B won 44-0. Don't you mean that with the realignment for 2009 South won't be able to avoid D-B!Sullivan South does better in the playoffs than DB. Of course DB flaked out and stopped playing South when they knew we would spank dat arse.
