11 TN RB/CB Devrin Young - UT Signee

Honestly this thread is up there with the Cody Robinson thread for most obnoxious of the recruiting season. Its the same discussion over and over and over. For the love of God people get over it.

My question is, if he's such a great talent...why haven't more schools offered? He's obviously been to camps.

They either don't want him because of his size, don't think he has "it" for some other reason, or don't think it is worth the effort since he is such a complete lock to UT.

Ah, right. So because someone doesn't agree with the majority then he must hate the kid.

I don't know what your feelings are... just that you keep harping on the kid.

In any class there will be players that some or even all fans don't understand. Some work out great- Arian Foster. Some don't- Josh Hawkins.

We all know you don't like this commit. I think everyone knows why. Unless it has somehow become personal to you, why do you keep griping about it?

The obvious difference of course being that Devrin was actually offered. I do see your point though...

Listen guys, everybody who is trashing this guy must just not know a lot about football. Young is coming here to make an impact returns right away, not an every down back....

Coach DD wants him as athlete to return as a freshman. As he learns the offense Dooley will use him in "wrinkle" plays to throw at the D to change it up, like how almost every other big time teams do. He will be playin in the slot as a speedy, open field threat at WR to get bubble screens, WR sweeps and etc. He will get reps at RB in a scatback role to take sweeps outside to stretch out the D, draw plays, screens, swings and direct snaps once he learns the plays. That's the truth about it guys.

He is a vol, stop with the whole "but look at the only schools that offered him" or "but he's only a 3 star" or "look at the crappy teams he played, that's why his stats are so high." Guys, Chris Johnson played at ECU, do you think he played big time teams? NO. Johnson and McCluster were 2 or 3 star "nobodys" coming out of highschool. Only one team gave Johnson a shot on offense and returning, the rest wanted him as a DB. That's why he went to ECU because they believed he would be a weapon on offense. It was the same with McCluster. The same thing is goin on with Young right now. Look at what the small speedsters are doin in the NFL and in college right now. He's a vol guys, trust in our coaches. That my friends is just how the cookie crumbles....

He's a midget.

Other schools have 85 guys to pick a return man from too.

Tennessee doesn't. I don't expect Young to be some SEC superstar. I expect him to be a solid return guy that might end up developing into a gadget play guy or a nickel/dime back.

He isn't in the upper echelon of talent in the country. However, he fills a hole that hasn't really been addressed since Nilo Silvan was here.

Good 'ole Nilo "The Nitro Sodomite" Silvan.

Oh sure, you had to go and ruin it for me!

These guys that hate DY didn't know where Rosenberg is.

:)

Not ruining it, actually probably making your case better.....Quizz played top notch talent....Texas didn't offer, A&M didn't offer, OU didn't offer...all of the Power Recruiting schools that recruit Houston didn't offer.....he had very good numbers in HS against very good competition....but was deemed "too small".....

Watched him in HS a couple times, kid reminds me a lot of D. Young.

You know what I don't understand? When one of the other teams has one of these / "slash players" we sit around and %itch and moan. "Why can't we ever get one of these players". These guys are hardly ever highly recruited because of questions about size, competition blah blah blah. I watched Dmac at Largo for 2 years do basically what Dyoung is doing at Bearden, namely singlehandedly destroy evertbody else. From the video I have seen he looks like a Dmac clone. The only reason he was at Ole Miss is because somebody took a chance on him. That is what Dooley is doing, taking a chance on DY. And don't bring up Largos comp. Pinellas county football sucks. What I want to know is if this kid comes here and becomes a playmaker (obviously not everydown RB) are you guys who hate this pickup so much going to man up and say how dumb you are? I'm guessing NO.

This guy has been the smallest guy on the field for a long time. Not saying his high school competition is college caliber, but he's been told he's too small for a long time. He deserves a chance.

I am lookling forward to seeing him Friday night in Kingsport against the undefeated Dobyns-Bennett Indians.

:good!:

Yeah, that bull**** is getting old. I, for one, agree that he is not a big guy at 5'8ish and 165ish, but he's got something that the Floridas and the Oregons and the LSU have or had at some point, and that's SPEED. The Tennessee Volunteers need SPEED, and lots of it.

I am trying REALLY hard to restrain myself from putting you next to Fijivol on my ignore list. Instead of crying foul over Cody's snub, why don't you just get over it and cheer for him and support him while he plays at Duke? Not everyone is destined to be a Vol. :nono:

I will support him but I am also a VOL!

Then you'll understand when I say that you must let it go.

Let it go.

Ravenheart has been a member less than a month and has been on a posting binge (not criticizing, just making an observation), and EVEN HE realizes how obnoxious Fiji, volinmcminnville, and (if he hasn't already) will get the same vibe from the poster known as "you".

Welcome to VN, where trolls and ra-tards run rampant.

My 3 questions to you all if posey is not from CCHS does he get an offer? If Robinson is from Georgia does he get an offer? And what makes you all thing Young is D1 talent based on his offers?

It would have been smart to give him preferred walk-on status and let him earn a scholarship... if he shows up and proves that he can play then I'd be all for rewarding him. I'm sure with his GPA he can even get the HOPE scholarship so he wouldn't have to pay much anyway.

There would have been nothing to lose with asking him to do that... its not like he has a committable offer from anyone else...

I'm all for him being a Vol, but think we should have pumped the brakes on this one instead of overreacting into an offer that we can't take back because he's local and the natives will get butt hurt.

thats it.. I'm leaving it at that...
