11 TN RB/CB Devrin Young - UT Signee

You ever come see a game closer to Nashville feel free to PM me about it. You seem like a pretty nice guy.

Knoxville is just a little too far for me to go see a HS game. And HS cheerleaders are ... well ... well my wife keeps my sack somewhere around the house locked up. I only get it back when she needs it.

Ah been married.

I definately will. hahaha I'm glad I'm not married just yet.

You are obviously a huge Devrin Young fan.

I'm not sold yet. Alot of guys tear up East TN HS football fields every year. Never impresses anyone outside of.... well.... East TN haha.

I agree its going to be tough for him but I would just love to see him succeed and prove alot of people wrong

My observations of Young:

First let me say Young was easily the smallest player on the field tonight but their was no doubt he was the most explosive player out there. He never got a chance to return a kick or punt because Knox Catholic kicked away from him every time. Also, Beardens OL is just atrocious! They are severly undersized, Knox Catholics DL blew their OL up all night. They tried to run Young in between the tackles about 7-8 times but he could never break one because by the time he hit the line Catholics DL had already busted up the play. When Bearden finally decided it was time to get Young out in space you could see his talent, he broke a huge 88 yard run in the 2nd quarter to where he never got up to full speed made a guy miss who had an angle on him at about the 15 & still scored. In the 3rd they ran a sweep with him to the left he gained about 15 yards but he lowered his shoulder & completey ran over the Catholic LB. Also in the 3rd they tried to run a little sweep with him to the right, he tried to find a hole but instead stopped on a dime cut all the way back across field & gained about 20-25 yards & if it was'nt for the Catholic Saftey having an angle on him he would have scored easily again.

They ran the wildcat with him about 3 times but he could never find a hole to hit, he caught about 4 passes out of the backfield for about 25-30 yards. They had him pass protecting alot from the weak side. I left with 4 minutes to go in the game with Bearden winning 33-14, Young had about 18 carries for 170-180 yards & 3 TD's.

Also let me add, it's a miracle Young has as many rushing yards as he does this season. I've watched Young play 3 times this year & every game he is the focus of the defense. He has to create EVERYTHING for hisself, his OL does'nt do him any favors at all. For him to have 1,500 rushing yards shows how elusive & fast Young truly is. I'm really not exaggerating either it's pretty bad.

good info, thanks man.

Thanks jmoore! How do you think he will transition to the next level? Is he quick enough to be a playmaker for us?

I was at the game with jmoore and Devrin is absolutely quick enough to play. No Doubt.

He'll never be an every down feature back, but with his speed we can line him up in the back field, slot, and on special teams. I think he can develop into a player that can get anywhere from 8-10 touches a game for us.

I know the competition he plays against isn't great for the most part, but after finally getting to watch him play live I really think he can play at the SEC level. Time will tell though.

Maybe a D. Tinsley type? Really enjoyed his time on the team.

jmoore 21, UTVOLS107, and Tyler: Thanks for attending the game and letting us know about D Young. He sounds like he is really explosive. I hope he proves the naysayers wrong and becomes one of the best to ever wear the Orange and White!...GBO!

What about Onterio McCalleb from Auburn?

I don't know if they play alike, but OM is a smaller back that's done well in the SEC. I know OM is taller, but one would think Young is built more solidly.
