11 TN RB/CB Devrin Young - UT Signee

His only "big-time" offer right now is Stanford and many people are saying it isn't an offer he can commit to now. He's a fall back for them.

He doesn't have an offer because he isn't good enough for an offer and we could use Buie way more than we could Young. End of story.

He is a great football player no doubt but he has no interest in UT and we dont have too much in him. If we had more scholarships to give i would say give him a chance but not this year. Also though you can bash his competition too much cause I go to Bearden and our football team is not that good without him. Our O line is not good at all some of them are only 5'9 230. SO he does alot of work on his own and that is from his speed trust me he is fast track kids said he finished 2nd in state last year in the 100m. by the way Carson Newman has apparently offered im not sure if thats true.

Hey-o! Carson Newman and and a conditional offer from Stanford! After whiffing on Cody Robinson we really need to get this kid in the fold!

"It definitely has been frustrating," Young said. "It's like what else do I have to do? I'm one of those people that think everything happens for a reasons. Although it's extremely frustrating, it will all work itself out. I'm not worried about it."

"He told me to keep doing what I'm doing," Young said. "He said not to worry about the rest and just go have fun. I like coach Dooley a lot. He is a lot like my high school coach (Brad Taylor). He's just a really professional guy and he is very thorough. He is very honest. I felt like I was more built than he expected. He told me I looked pretty stout."

While Young is yet to receive an offer, they did talk about that possibility and how they would use the dynamic athlete if that day ever became reality.

"They told me I'd have the ball in my hands," Young said. "They told me they would put me in the slot and get in me in space on bubble screens. They said they would use me to return kicks and just be a playmaker."

For those wondering his size ( no homo ) here is a new pic of him.

I watched film on this kid, he is very impressive. I'm sure this staff is interested in him but has bigger Targets and plans on using him as a fall back option. He is a local kid and I'm sure he is a Vol fan, they probably think he would be there when we decide to offer. He is only a 5.5 3 star with an un impressive offer list......kind of reminds me of last time we tried this approach. I remember a 5.5 3 star from Alcoa from the 2008 class. He only had an offer from MTSU. We thought he would be ours for the taking, but Randy Sanders offered and he accepted. We offered but it was too late.

I truely believe this kid is special, no matter what the competition level is, what he has done so far is very impressive. If we are going to build a wall around this state with home kids who live, breath and die loving orange, then he is a taker.

After reading that article from VQ and watching that film of him, I will be very dissapointed if he isn't a Vol this time next year.

Well, we took Toney as a preferred walk-on and Young will most likely smash Toney's state rushing record. If we can get him, whether by scholarship or not, he would make a good returner.

Our recruiting is in the crapper, if we are taking reaches like this in September.

His only real offer now is probably Carson Newman or UTC or something similar.

Carlos says Dooley just called and offered him and Devrin will commit later today.

Very surprising.

I think Young can be a good return man.

If Young is willing to be a gadget play guy and a great return man, he's worth a scholarship IMO.

Do I think he'll hold up carrying the ball 15 times a game in the SEC? No.

Do I think he can flip the field with a couple of returns? Yes.

If he can play CB or get in 10 plays a game on offense, so be it.

Look at Brandon James or Javier Arenas. Both were lightly recruited and neither did much other than returns until they were juniors or seniors.

I agree with all your points. My only real complaint is you take him over Buie and Seymour. I think they are better players at the exact same stuff and we can get them.

But I am not a coach or a talent evaluator and in Dooley I trust.
