11 TN RB/CB Devrin Young - UT Signee

I'm not questioning has talent at all.

His numbers are ridiculous, even if he put those up against the Alabama school for the deaf and blind.

I would be impressed if he put those numbers up against the ASFDAB. They have 2 sure fire 5 star recruits for next year. They are both deaf, but can deliver vicious hits from their safety postions. You are aware that the Alabama school for the Deaf & Blind is the school that invented the tinted eye guards on football helmets right? In all seriousness it is not my intent to offend anyone with this post, and if it does, I am truly sorry

Im not saying the kid is gonna be our top player. Give him a chance return a few kicks, do a few sweeps, and some screen passes. He can take few hits but not like a full time player. He is someone we could get the ball to 3 or 4 times a game and see if he can make a big play happen. When we get some decent recruit in the state we need to make sure they stay here, he is too fast and quick to not give a chance.

What I feel like and I think CDD may feel the same way. We are not in position to offer a guy who MAY be a good returner at this level. There are a lot of guys who run kickoffs back in HS. Case back when I graduated Matt Caddell was a monster return man in HS(set the national record for return TDs). He goes to Alabama and was nothing more than a 3rd WR. Too big a risk to offer at this point.

Brandon James was a 2*...

Give it up.... Devrin Young's only shot at playing for UT is walking on. He can rush for 10,000 yards and probably still not get a scholly offer. Just because he plays high school football in East TN doesn't mean we need him playing college football in East TN.

This thread is starting to remind me of the Cody Robinson thread..

I remember at the 2009 UT camps that Young did very well at DB and held his own against some of the top WRs in the country. Why not offer at a DB and a return guy?

he is adamant about playing offense.

Well then he will adamant about going to Stanford then because that is his only offer at the moment. I think he needs to realize that he is limiting himself and look at what will get him to the next level. The kid is shifty and has some wheels but he is also very small.

Well I am going to be very upset if he doesnt get an offer. This kid is a player, we will regret it if he gets away.

Everybody is mad at Dooley but they want him to play defense. He wants to tell the coaches what position he wants to play. With that attitude he can play somewhere else. We don't need him.

Buck says the only thing holding the staff backk is his size but how big is Evander Wells? Pretty sure he had a shot at being a featured return guy for us before the injury. Point I'm getting at is he seems around the same size as young but a bit faster. I trust that there's a good reason the staff haven't offered.

Evander Wells was not a scholarship football player.

Sure, if Devrin wants to to walk-on like Evander, they will be glad to take him.

I'm hoping that Gordon gets a shot at returns so the point will be moot. I know we're recruiting other db's who would excel on returns as well.

I pretty sure Wells was more than a 'bit faster' than Young...

The time was posted earlier in the post. Think it's the time from camp. Also to another poster earlier where do we have time to develop this kid. Guys like Tom Smith and Rajon Neal will not be giving up carries to this guy. Also how can you say Rogan was an All-SEC running back? We had Hardesty and Coker here then was he better than either of those guys? You guys need to stop being such homers on him. He needs to go play in the WAC or Conference USA if he wants to play RB. A couple of hits from Alabama's monstrous LBs and it's over for this dude. And what happens when he gets recruited over? Because it will happen. He doesn't want to play corner either which is what's funny. Because Ath Chris Jones is a better offensive player than Young but is going to play DB because that's what the coaches want him at on the next level.

Where did I say that Rogan was an All-SEC RB? I said he was an SEC caliber RB out of HS. Here is my post you were speaking of.

THANK YOU!!! It cracks me UP to see someone who OBVIOUSLY hasn't seen him play, say he runs a 4.6 40time. Dude should be ashamed to post something that is 100% FALSE!! Not an opinion, just plain not true. I've watched Devrin play for 4 yrs. I watched his Soph yr when he was max preps All-American. He team isn't as talented as the Knox Farraguts, Catholics, Maryville, etc. Every team keys on him, yet he gets his. He runs FAR greater than a 4.6 40, and is bigger than his 155lbs Rivals has him listed. as. We had the same conversations about Randall Cobb and Dennis Rogan. We made the mistakes of not getting Cobb, and getting Rogan yet making him a DB. Rogan was an SEC caliber RB. This kid VERY WELL might be the best player in the state. I don't care what Rivals says, and I really don't care what the false 4.6 40 time crew has to say. Drive down to Knoxvegas and watch him, I'll bet you change your tune.

Now if I stated that Rogan was All-SEC at RB, I apologize. But I don't think I did.
