11 TN RB/CB Devrin Young - UT Signee

You have got to be kidding me. That's just killer. Maybe Dooley needs to really think about offering this kid.

I would loce for UT to give him a shot but I know a bunch of the boys on the team and a couple that played and graduated last year, all swear up and down he won't play for the vols. You never know though. Things can change.

So he comes here and plays what again? RB: over Oku,Neal, Tom Smith Slot Wr: over Milton,Hunter, or Rogers whoever is lined up there. CB: over Teague, Gordon, or Naz Oliver. It would be best for him to go somewhere that would better utilize his talents. Randall Cobb wouldn't be the same player if he had come to UT plain and simple. Systems can make or break a player. I don't like the idea of giving a player a scholarship to be a return man.

what about UTs system that you have never seen on the field automatically makes this guy not a useable talent? What he has done the past few weeks is simply remarkable. Keep in mind that these guys you mention won't be around forever. Got to always build towards the future. I disagree with the Cobb assessment as well. I don't care what system you run, great players will find a way to be on the field. Cobb is a great player, and this kid seems to be too. I am not saying you are saying this, but stars are not everything. We have certainly wasted a great deal of scholarships lately on high star athletes who "fit the system" only to see them crash and burn.

Cliff notes: give the local good athletes a chance

I never looked at his stars. I can see the type of big physical team that Dooley is building and Young at RB(which he states that wants to play) is not a real good fit for a physical running game.

Tonight 11 carries 285 yards 5 touchdowns.

So on the season 21 carries like 570ish all purpose yards and 11 touchdowns

So basically, you have a coin flip's chance of him taking it to the house every time you give him the ball?

We don't need none of that in Knoxville...

I agree. People see what Cobb has been able to do at UK and automatically assume he could have done the same thing at Tennessee.

If not at running back could he fill the role of a Dennis Rogan? Either corner or return specialist?

I also suspect that with a full ride at Stanford that the kid may not be interested in SEC football. If my kid had the academics I would certainly support them going to a major academic institution. UT may already know this to be the situation and not wasting their time here.

But the kid is worth the offer if he is interested.

agree 100%:good!:

We had this same discussion last year. Im still torn on the matter. I don't care either way, if he gets the offer, he def. earned it.

Why can't this kid be like Brandon James for FLA? Undersized but completely changes the way ST have to be run for the opposition?

IF they think he can be a dynamic return specialist, he is worth a scholarship just for that reason. However we are pretty thin at multiple positions which doesn't give us as much luxury as some. It is easier to gamble on a player that gives you something at multiple positions.

IF we don't get him...imho....he is one of those we love to watch on another team and wonder why.....:hi:

Young lighting it up according to Mike Griffith who is tweeting from the game.

Well, Devrin Young just scored on an 89-yd KOR -- that makes 12 TDs on 22 offensive touches...Why would anyone kick to his guy, lol

mgrif32
Well, on his second touch of the night, Devrin Young goes 59 yards for a TD.....

mgrif32
News! William Blount holds Young to 37-yard run on his third touch of the night

mgrif32
Young's 4th touch of night is his 3rd TD -only 5 yards, but he literally hurdled a defender at the goal line. Should make the highlights.

Another...

mgrif32
Well, William Blount kicked off to Devrin Young, and....yep, 93 yards for a TD
