'11 TN OL Mack Crowder

I saw Mike on Coal last week...didn't even know that he was involved with the show until I saw it or how long the series has been going on...I've known Mike for many years and if Mack is anything like him, he will make his family proud! GBO!

It's been on 1 week so far. Didn't know he was on it though.

Fairly impressive as the starting C for White, no?

I have to admit it was a very impressive showing especially going against Montori Hughes. Mack's snap was crisp and speedy, he fired off the line, he got underneath the defensive linemen several times. Didn't the white team run up the middle several times successfully?

Thanks for asking, I was trying to watch him closely. I could have missed something, but I don't remember him getting his butt kicked any, and there was a few times he executed very nice on running plays.

I had heard Mack was very strong for being so young. Obviously he has a great skill set at the C position as well. Glad we got him, and he may see some playing time this year. Stone was a guard in HS wasn't he? Maybe getting our best 5 on the field would include Stone at Guard later in the year. If nothing else, being able to give your Center a rest from time to time is not a bad thing. Go Vols!

I don't know that this is the case, Eric. I wouldn't go by the two deep that's been released, they have Bullard listed as the backup right now.

I thought that was weird too, but he had been practicing at center some before James got sick and missed the rest of spring.

He already passed Gooch.

Stone will be the starter, but if he messes up on the hand switch experiment, Mack will be the new C

"Thanks for learning a new position in the middle of your freshman year, being named a freshman all-american in the process, and now making it even more difficult by using your weak hand.... but it's not working out."

Bullard is not eligible this year unless his hardship waiver is approved by the NCAA.

I have not read anything stating there is a valid reason it won't be approved. A death in the family should pretty much guarantee approval.

cus the guy he responded to mentioned Bullard's place on the depth chart.

so it is a foregone conclusion that Bullard is getting his Waiver? bc last I read, there was some concern

I think Crowder was the best Center on the field Saturday BUT not one of the best 5 linemen. I actually think we need to redshirt Crowder and let him pack on the extra 10 pounds of muscle. But OK so here could be a challenge..... What if we can't get the bugs worked out of Stone's snap and what if Stone's snap is messing up our QB's timing and convidence? What if Crowder turns out to be the Best Center than any other on the team due to his years of snapping, his speed of snap, his control of snap, his smarts, and the confidence it gives our QB's? Remember, Crowder is IVY League material. I'm just wondering about this situation.

There was 4 messed up snaps. One delayed snap by Crowder who then complained that he couldn't hear the new QB Worley. 3 were Stones, 1 in shotgun missed QB by 6 feet wide left, 1 illegal procedure on a early jerk of the ball when Stone started to snap but pulled the snap forward again, 1 snap by Stone while Bray was under-Center hit Bray on the shins and resulted in a fumbled snap at the line of scrimmage.

Wouldn't cry about being an All American at a different position. He will not be an NFL center. He is absolutely one of our best players and has potential like J James to be an All American instead of a freshman All American.

Or they could let him continue to develop and not have a true freshman starting at a position where experience counts that much for the second year in a row. JMO.

To me that's the dilemma. It seems we may have a problem offering at least two possibilities, neither of which seems practically acceptable. Do you continue to develop a non-right-handed, non-center to prevent having a true freshman starting at a position where experience is needed and still have plays corrupted due to snap failure, OR do you burn a true freshman's redshirt year, let that center gain the experience, and still have potential plays corrupted due to inexperience? I guess the answer might need to be reformulated to the question ..... What's best for 2012? .... because it seems we may not be able to find the perfect situation for 2011. If we answer ... What's best for 2012? .... then just maybe we put the true-freshman, true-center, true-right handed lineman and develop the experience now even though it goes against a normal philosphy that all SEC lineman should always redshirt their first year in normal SEC programs.

I think this is a much bigger current dilemma than many are realizing as it directly impacts the QB's ability to get into his game groove.
