'11 TN Kicker Zach Sharp

Too many holes to fill. We need more help on D than a kicker. Especially since we signed the top kicker and punter in the nation last year...

"The we signed the top kicker and punter in the nation last year" is getting old. If we are playing at Florida next year and Palardy has a 45 yard FG to win the game are you feeling confident? I am not from what I've seen. Now I do agree we cant waste a scholarship on Sharp. But we have got to find a way to bring this kid in for competition sake. Even if he is used just for kickoffs.

To know that you'd be set for 4 years at a position - any position seems like the oppositie of "a waste of a scholarship." If it's a scholly for a position where you're asked to go out and win the game or win the field position battle - don't see how you could be more strategic.

I thought Palardy got hurt at the beginning of the year and was never 100% after that.I may be wrong.

And he did not pan out.

Last year we signed Palardy and Darr, who were both considered to be the best in the country. If Sharp thinks he can beat them out then he needs to walk on and take their scholarships.

Due to the shortage of players we just do not have another special team scholarship. I think the staff is making the right decision.

The staff didnt want him to kick it into the end zone? Are you serious? If Palardy could get it there, and get some touchbacks the staff would take that instead of having Janzen Jackson and other starters waste energy on kickoffs

Dead serious. Ever play special teams? It's another opportunity to make a big play/create a turnover/pin the opponent deep....when you have high confidence in the coverage team. Last time I checked, our beloved Big Orange was 9th in the nation in kickoff coverage. So if you have confidence in that, lots of returners take hard hits and fumble balls. Its dice worth rolling by design.

Palardy boomed all but a handful of his high school kicks through the end zone, and I'm positive he can get it straight in there if he so desires. Look at the constant placement of the kicks. They're basically hitting the numbers on the outside of the hash marks. That is no accident.

haha yes Palardy did boom them through in high school where he was kicking from, I believe the 40 apposed to the 30. And if he could boom them through everytime Dooley would much rather him do that than have the oppurtunity of a big play happening on us.

We have been doing the directional kicking since the UT Martin game. The KO team nas been pinning them in the corner all year long with great success.

Zach Sharp is the real deal. He is an ice man from anywhere on the field. We need to get this guy.

Anyone wanting to give any kicker one of the few scollys we have left need to be kicked off the fan base.

If you followed close enough you would have known that Palardy has been hurt all year. Yes I still feel confident and still don't see the need to sign another kicker.

"Here's an update. Coaches definitely want him to walk on, but it seems a bit complicated. He'll gladly walk on for a year if he gets the "Skylar McBee" treatment, so to speak, and then would be granted a scholarship. He and Dooley are supposed to speak again before NSD."

I totally agree with winning the special teams battle in games and really hope there is some way this kid agrees to walk on or can get some academic schollys to come to UT.

I hope he walks on, but after reading the article it sounds like he wants a guaranteed scholarship after year one. Also, I personally didn't like the way he took a shot at Palardy at the end of the article.

Hence the grey shirt and McBee treatment next year already mentioned.

Sharp said coaches haven't mentioned a greyshirt year. They want him to kickoff next season. If he's going to play next season, he wants to try and hold out for a scholarship. Also, coaches won't guarantee him a scholarship in the future. He has scholarship offers elsewhere, so he has a decision to make, as does Dooley.

Sorry, I meant walk on, not greyshirt. That word gets used here so much I guess it is stuck in my head. He and Dooley are talking about it tonight per VQ and if he can get a guarentee ofr a scholarship next year he will gladly walk on.

If the kid is a player and it appears he is one people would expect to actually see time on the field...I have no issue with offering him a walk on with the promise of a scholarship next year. A kicker can win games, a kicker can make a huge impact in wins. If we can give a ship to a return specialist...there is no reason a kicker could not be given the same thing. He is even willing to wait a year for the scholarship. I hope the staff takes it.

It's amazing how Palardy was our kicking savior this time last year, now it seems some have already given up on him.

I don't think anyone has forgot Palardy. I think what alot have forgot is what a kickoff to the goal line or into the end zone looks like. I am a fan of Palardy, but there is nothing wrong with having another kicker at the ready.
