'11 TN ATH Willie Carmichael

According to Hubbs yesterday, WC is going to visit this weekend. Hubbs mentioned that it looks like he will be placed at Fork Union to work on his grades. Hubbs said don't expect him to sign with us next Wednesday because we need the spot, but UT is still interested in in him for the future. Said that he is being recruited as a DB.

Has anyone heard anything about Carmichael's visit?

I've heard nothing about his visit. It is still early. We usually don't hear too much about weekend visitors until late Sunday. He is being recruited as a CB and a KR according to his high school coach. After watching this video I can understand why UT coaches would want to get the ball in this kids hands:

Player Of The Year - Video - WCYB Tri Cities

Reminds me of a Marsalis Teague or Randall Cobb. Seriously.

Reminds me of G. Jones. Looks alot like his HS video.

I can sorta see that. Both played QB in high school. However, Carmichael would run circles around G.Jones. He is very fast. Faster than Cobb as well. He can move.

Jones looked like a burner coming out of high school.

YouTube - The Next Great Vol Running Back

But hey , I hope you are right. Jones didn't turn out to be bad or anything. Just not what we thought we were getting speed wise.

Exactly. He was a very solid and productive player. And always reliable when not injured. He was a first down machine when healthy. But he won't be blowing people away at the NFL Combine with his 40 time. Speed isn't everything though. He ran great routes and knew exactly where to be at the right time. Great possession WR.

Hope we re-recruit Carmichael next year like we have told him. After his time at Fork Union he is only going to get better. Chaney is serious about this guy. They want him as part of the 2012 class.

Does he have to go to prep school or only if there isn't enough schollies this year?

I think the staff will let him sign if we don't reach 28.

Hubbs said in the WR that Carmichael won't be qualifying, but the staff's plans are to place him at Fork Union Academy in Virginia and continue to recruit him as he gets his grades up. He also emphasized at the end of the article that they don't expect Carmichael to sign with UT on NSD.

He will not qualify for UT. That is for certain. I think that he has it in his mind that he wants to play D1, and at this point he will have to go to a prep school or JUCO to get his grades better and mature a little. I also think he is very interested with UT. From what i read he really enjoyed his visit with Coach Chaney.

He has many DII offers, but he has his mind set on UT. I think he gets placed in Fork Union by UT and is recruited to play CB and KR by the Vols for the 2012 recruiting class.

EDIT
He's going to Fork Union if he gets a 2.0 for his core. He's got a B right now and has to maintain it. if he doesn't get the B in English he'll go to Coffey. Be they way. they are currently checking out the dorms right now .
