'11 TN ATH Willie Carmichael

Does he shine as a DB or slot player? Don't think so. That's why I think we might need to pass on this one. Sorry. That to me, would be like recruiting DY as a DB. DY is a flat dead KILLER ball player, but wouldn't have a PRAYER as a D-1 DB. But he has shown that he has good hands, can return kicks/punts, and take hand offs to the house. He's a playmaker in about 4-5 different ways. Take Carmichael out of his element as a QB. Can dude catch, return punts/kicks, etc? Not saying he can't, but we don't know. He will be recruited as an athlete type player rather than a QB. If we are gonna recruit an ATH, I would rather it be a guy we KNOW can multi-task (DY). Again, just my opinion, by NO MEANS a fact.
I am selfish individual with UT! we need to keep the speed develop them into what we want(easier said than done),but we need to keep the speed!

My son has a friend who was timed at 4.28 electronically. He was a high draft pick in bb, but washed out after 3 years. He entered college and played RB. He scored a few TDs on some sweeps, but I don't remember ever seeing him break a long run or break a tackle. He could outrun everyone on the field, but couldn't create an opportunity to do so.

Carmichael, is a great athlete yes he returns kicks, punts and he is getting recruited as a db and slot. He had 8 ints this year I feel he is better on defense than offense he is playing corner in the east and west game. UT has been talking to William and so has clemson he now has offers from app state, utc, western Carolina,Tennessee tech, east Carolina,Tennessee state, UT Martin, tuscolum, and Carson Newman they want him to be qb. He had been talking to v tech and ole miss also and Memphis. He ran a 4.38 and has a 40 inch vertical did you watch the state championship game when he dove in the end zone.

Kinda what I was thinking. Then again, if he runs 4.38 wouldn't you think schools would be on him? I think Devrin's size hurt him with recruiting, but this kid has better size. Just asking.

The difference between him and young is dy has a 3.8 gpa carmichael has not been cleared yet through the clearing house but he is versatile and a stud. State championship game he had 3 picks and 4 tds he is a great defensive player and last year in nc he returned 10 kick offs back for td he only returned 1 back this year but he was only kicked to 4 times he should get cleared next month

And level of comp. Not that Young is playing SouthFla comp, but Greenville doesn't play many good teams do they? Does he check out ok in the Character dept?

Look, College can mold you if you let it! And Character is important, but lets not fool ourselves, we rather have Good football players +Character than, model citzens and absolutely suck on the field. Plus 4.3 speed lets get the kid in Go Vols!!!@@!@

I have no real frame of reference, having seen so very few teams, but the Kingsport Times had an article on Monday where they argued that Greeneville's team this year was one of the best in the history of the state.

"Putting an exclamation point on his high school career, Carmichael capped off a memorable performance with a 98-yard interception return for the game’s final touchdown."
He also had a 63 yd kick return that would have gone all the way except for a very lucky kicker...

Look guys, the boy is 1 HELL of a ball player. He is a legit D-1 player. But he IMHO isn't a fit for what UT needs right now. He's another Rod Wilks. GREAT HS player, better than most he plays against. But what position does he play? And say what you want, he plays a lot of weak comp.

Really? I would think things like when you heard about 9-11, would rank up there pretty high. You must really be passionate about highschool football.
