'11 SC QB Justin Worley

so were definitely going to get Worley or Brissett

I honestly don't see how we don't. Even if by some chance Worley goes to ND, I have no idea who Brissett would choose over UT. He would be the #2 QB in a class and I don't know why he would do that.

Ely and Rivers are still on the board too. And it isn't like there is 1 of these guys who is head and shoulders above the others like in '10. Last year, it was Heaps and Scroggins then a huge dropoff to Rettig, Rees, Hendrix, etc. Luckily we floundered our way onto a guy in the class of Heaps.

All the '11 QBs are pretty much even. And we won't have to go to all the way to the West Coast (Scroggins, Heaps, Bray, Rettig) or to Ohio (Rees, Hendrix) to get a QB this year. They are all right in our backyard in the South. We will get a solid QB.

+1. The dominoes are falling into place. I like our chances of getting at least one of the names above. I really hope that Brissett comes on board. His talent with the competition faced down in FL makes him my obvious choice. I just hope that basketball won't mess this up for us.

They will generally produce more talent, but it isn't directly proportional at all.

Allow me to dork it up for a moment...

If you look at the three states you mentioned, it is inversely proportional. Based on Larry's Locker on this site (which catalogs BCS signees by state from 2002-2010) as well as 2009 Census projection numbers, the data are:

State...........Population.....BCS Signees
California......36,961,664..........1520
Texas...........24,782,302.........1790
Florida..........18,537,969.........1810

If the production were directly proportional, then the number of BCS signees per 1,000,000 citizens would be a fairly constant number. For these three states (CA, TX, and FL), those ratios are actually 41, 72, and 98. These are quite different, even for these high-producing states.

I've broken down the number of signees vs. state population by region in the following graph. Keep in mind, if it were directly proportional, then all slopes would be the same (the slopes are listed on the right-hand side - in front of the x in each equation - in the same order as the regions appear in the legend). Instead, you see high variability by region. Thus, it can easily be argued that while population is one factor and might appear to inflate the numbers of signees, there are very important regional differences that fly in the face of state populations.

Note that the southeast states have the highest number of signees per state population (highest slope) and New England has the lowest. No surprise, really. For example, MA is the same size as TN, but produced almost 4 times fewer signees over this period. Also note from the R2 values that some regions are more proportional than others.

Perhaps the most damning numbers are the breakdown of the ratio of signess per 1,000,000 citizens for the southeast/southern states. This is a great look at just how much of an uphill battle Tennessee faces with regard to talent - second to last just ahead of.... KENTUCKY.

State.......................Signees..........Population........Ratio*1E6
Florida........................1810..........18,537,969 .............98
Georgia........................932............9,829,211 .............95
Alabama...................... 440............4,708,708.............93
North Carolina...............405............9,380,884..............43
Louisiana......................356............4,492,076.............79
South Carolina...............326............4,561,242.............71
Mississippi.....................297............2,951,996............101
Tennessee....................258............6,296,254.............41
Kentucky......................162............4,314,113.............38
Arkansas......................143............2,889,450 ..............49

That hurt my eyes a little. Imo

Just out of curiosity, what are our actual chances of landing Brissett? I know that is the million dollar question. I guess my question is, is their legit interest from both parties involved? I saw his highlight video and it looked really good. He definitely has some wheels. It would be nice to have a QB who actually is a run threat at UT for a change. Even if he would be a change of pace type of guy.

I don't know, I kind of agree with what LV's saying. Except I seem to think Worley to ND is more legit than he does, so it would only seem Brissett is our obvious best-chance. We'd be his best option as well (considering everything). So it all comes down to who's #1 on the coaches board and/or if we'll take more than 1 QB. I broke down Worley vs Brissett in a stats comparison a few pages back. Who would you prefer?

I'm 50/50 on Brissett and Worley. The only reason I'm not higher on Brissett is his whole basketball thing. I'd almost rather want Worley just because of that. They both had solid stats. Obviously Jacoby plays FL HS ball so.....

I don't know, I'm just sort of in the air on who I'd rather take right now. I'm not blown-away-impressed by either one, but they are every bit as solid as Bray was coming out IMO.

So let the chips fall where they may, I guess.

I don't see why he'd want to go to ND with all those QBs they got last year. Unless he thinks he is better than all of them, I can't see him going there. But then again, I am not him and he is free to make his own choice.

If Worley announces UT, look for Brissett to end up at WVU, IMO.

Because Brian Kelly turns on film and shows him his offense. Alot like what Worley does in HS.

The way I look at it. One in the hand is better than two in the bush.

I'd rather have Brissett, but if Worley were to commit, I'd take it and be done.

If this is the case then ESPN will officially be the end all be all worst recruiting forecaster ever.

Not only that but they're going to make the ND fans have a heart attack when they have to report "oops...we were wrong ND has missed out on yet another QB they were recruiting..." lol

Yeah, but he may not see the field for several years. ND might be the team to beat if they were not so full at the QB position. IMO that might be the very thing that swings him to UT.
