'11 KY LB Lamar Dawson (USC)

That was the case when Fulmer was here and Chavis was our DC. Dooley, however, has expressed a preference for larger players almost across the board.

I was referring to Oregon not us. Hence I quoted BellotiBold.

As much as I would love to get this guy this doesn't look promising.

Boyle County linebacker Lamar Dawson was slated to visit Florida this weekend, but that has all changed. Larry Vaught spoke with Lamar Dawson and received the latest details on his recruitment.

Since he called off his official visit to Florida last weekend after the resignation of coach Urban Meyer, Boyle County linebacker Lamar Dawson has now decided to take an official visit to Kentucky this weekend.

He’ll get to the Kentucky campus Friday and be there until Sunday.

“Florida is not off my list, but I just didn’t want to wait on them for a visit,” Dawson said. “I want to go to Kentucky so I can hang out with the players. That’s the big thing for me.”

He likely will get to see Kentucky play basketball in Rupp Arena Saturday night against Mississippi Valley State. However, what he’s most interested in seeing is a practice and the Cats will have practices both Saturday and Sunday in preparation for the Jan. 8 bowl game in Birmingham against Pittsburgh.

“If you see a practice, you can get a feel for what the team is like and see if you will like what they are doing or not,” Dawson said.

Dawson, who has been to UK for unofficial visits, also hopes to spend some time with UK linebackers coach Chuck Smith, a former head coach at Boyle County.

“I will probably spend a lot of time with him to see what he can tell me about the program that maybe I don’t know,” Dawson said.

He’ll also have his first chance to meet new UK defensive coordinator Rick Minter, who joined the staff last week.

“I am kind of anxious to meet him. I do not know much about him,” Dawson said. “Actually, I had not even heard of him until he was hired, but he seems like a good coach.”

Dawson has made an official visit to Oregon. He’s also got USC, Tennessee, Michigan and Louisville on his final list of college choices.

“I still plan to make my decision sometime in February,” Dawson said.

I have a hard time believing UK is not a major factor in this one. That's just not how things work in that state.

I want to believe it, just can't.

Why anyone would sign up for three to four years of irrelevance is beyond me? A LOI to UK is wiping your butt with your college career and flushing it down the toilet. Obviously I don't want him to go to Oregon but I hate to see talent wasted and they are a much better program than UK.

Kentucky would be the worst possible choice he could make, we all agree on that, but I think most of us also understand that his life and his family's life would be in danger if he doesn't sign there. That is just how backwards that state really is.

I agree completely. You don't go there unless they're your best offer. But if you grow up in the state & are a highly touted kid, the pressure that they will put on you is enormous. UK fans literally live and die UK athletics. They don't have 401(k)s, IRAs, or college funds - they have UK travel accounts & dip into it every time there's a big road game.

Lamar seems like a reserved kid.....he may want to rebel from the pressure, or he may be one to give it to it easier.

This is one of the best statements I've seen that describes a Kentucky fan to a "T". It's sad and pathetic, but it really is the way they are.

Many of them may live then die before they get a win over UT. What is sad is most honest UK fans even admit that there program is pathetic, it just takes that reminder every year that no matter how down UT is they will always kick Kentucky's can.

Dawson will be a Vol! The staff did not take Gionni Pauls commitment because high on another LB, has to be Dawson
