'11 KY LB Lamar Dawson (USC)

Exactly! UF's 2006 offense was atrocious with Leak not being able to run Urban's style and needing Tebow to bail them out on 3rd and 4th down with 3 yard QB sneaks. However, the defense allowed 10-12 ppg and held a heisman winning Troy Smith and tOSU to 14 pts.

Their offense averaged 30 points a game and put up 38 and 41 in the SECC and NC respectively. Atrocious doesn't seem like a very good adjective to describe that offense.

UF had back to back drives of less than 50 yards for TD's, they stopped OSU on 4th down from the OSU 29 and got a FG, and caused a fumble they recovered on the 5 and punched in. That's 24 points on approximately 100 yards of offense. Doesn't make them offensive jugernauts.

And 30 ppg is 22 when you don't account for their OOC opponents who were beyond pathetic.

I didn't say they were offensive jugernauts. I said I wouldn't describe the offense as atrocious, and I stick by that. I don't care how many qualifiers, stipulations, or explanations you use, that team did not have an atrocious offense.

Meyer won both championships with great defenses.

Spurrier's '96 team gave up 17 points per game, was coached by Bob Stoops, and was anchored by Javon Kearse. It's amazing what some quality D will do for a high-flying offense.

The '06 Florida offense scored 29.7 ppg, and the defense gave up 13.5. In total offense, they ranked 10th in the nation.

"They've been good. We just talked about getting me down there on an official and about what Tennessee has to offer," Dawson said about the conversations with the Tennessee duo.

Dawson said there were a few things that stood about what the Vol coaches have been telling him.

"They just told me I have the opportunity to play early and to get a good education and the network at Tennessee," Dawson said.

Just, they're close to home and they're in the SEC," Dawson said.

Muschamp hasnt contacted Dawson but Dawson has been in contact with a UF assistant coach. Tennessee gets Dawsons last OV.

Asked JHop who he thought would get Lamar. He said tough to read, but UF, Oregon, UK, and USC were all in there.

IMO its going to be a UT/UF/UK battle.

I've heard he really liked the Oregon visit but its just to far away from home.

He wants to play in the SEC, the pressure to play for the home team & be the #1 player in their class is alot. The lore of UF is there but again to far away from home. Then you have Tennessee, we play in the SEC & we have early PT not to mention only 2-3 hours away from his home.

I think Oregon is in it right now but I think in the end the distance & being able to play in the SEC will keep him away.

I think they do. However, it's really going to be between the Volunteers, the Felines, and the Lizards on National Signing Day.

Thanks for the info. Looks like he visited Eugene for the Stanford game...that was a good game to go for!

Hopefully we can gain some ground and make a push, although undoubtedly distance will be an issue...

Yeah, a big issue. But Avery is one heck of a player. It was big for the Ducks to get him on campus for a visit.

You guys think Oregon has a shot? I'm really, really liking what I see.

As you might have gathered during his recruitment, Dawson is a quiet kind of guy. That is not normally the type of personality that sets off to school 2500 miles away.

I expect he will play closer to home, and in the SEC.

I hope he will be coming to Tennessee.

Lamar is an awesome prospect that would more than likely see significant playing time here early!! Hard to believe that he would go to UK in the end.. Home state university but a program that never has and never will rise out of mediocrity..

I think there is no doubt that he will be a guy that commits on NSD, and I really like that we are the last official visit for him.. Really hope he ends up in Knox-Vegas!!
