'11 JUCO TE Andrew Power

I'm not disregarding what you guys are saying but I agree with LV. He knows that with this staff Dooley takes multiple steps for a player to get on the board. They must go through their recruiting coach, position coach, offensive/defensive coordinator, and then Dooley himself. This wasn't the case last year with Kiffin ie Kiffin vs. Chaney with Nash Nance. If Kiffin and O didn't like a player Thompson mentioned they wouldn't even allow him to get on the board. If a player gets the go ahead from all coaches and then committs I'd say he should get the go ahead from the fans as well.

im curious LV, do you ever see fault in a single player we take as a commit? it would seem that you dont, like they are all flawless and no one should ever doubt the entirely unproven coaching staff. by this, i dont mean past credentials, i mean current cohesion. theyve never worked as a fully functioning coaching staff and i would bet that not all the coaches on staff agree with some of the players other coaches place on the board. an example from last year: Chaney v Kiffin over Nance.

im not entirely thrilled about the pickup, but im not against it either. would be nice to have another player and i dont forsee us meeting the 28 commit limit this year anyways.

Its hard to judge a player when he has not stepped a foot on the field here and not played in CDD system yet. So how can people say he's bad?

sure I do.

I am just not gonna act like I know more than the coaches and start crying like bam, sgm, etc.

+1

edit: LV is going to come back with a list of accomplishments by Thompson, Chaney, Baggett, etc almost sounding as if he actually believes we have the best coaching staff in the SEC.

it's hilarious that you disregard their accomplishments cuz it disagrees with your opinion lmao.

Surprised and disappointed to see the fans turning on each other, guess it happens sometimes. I also find it humorous when us message board folks think we know more than highly paid SEC coaches.... coaches will make mistakes in every class, but let's give them a chance before we judge. (big offers don't always equal top players at the collegiate level)

I for one trust the coaches and am thrilled to get Power. We need all the help we can get, and if the coaches think he is good enough to play at this level, I believe them.

However, to say he is better than Jason Witten who was a stud at UT and is a stud in the NFL now, and Power has yet to prove anything in the SEC is crazy. I still think LV is joking for whatever reason.

I do think Power is a good pickup, because our coaches have evaluated him and think so. They know more than me and anyone else on this board. Again, I'm glad to get him.

Did you think every recruit Fulmer signed was a good pickup?

We will be signing 28 every year until we have some semblance of depth again. Even if we have to fill up with players who aren't out first choice.

I also meant by not filling up to 28, i meant first choice/second choice players. i have no doubt we wont take 28, but id be willing to bet we only get in the range of 20-22 players we ACTUALLY are gun-hoe for. the rest will, to be honest, depth-only fill space.

sure I do.

Come on LV, you cant tell me you buy entirely into pickups such as this, Sapp, Clark, etc. you have to have some measure of doubt without having seen them play.

i mean, everyone valued Kiffin and O's recruits. why? because they had pulled big fish while at USC and had big fish interested in us while here. yes, i know big fish can flop, and we may get lucky and catch a large sunnie, but this cant go on throughout our entire recruiting year. its way too early to be accepting commits like this. the current staff has done nothing yet to prove that they are excellent evaluators of talent/recruiters. lets face it, had they not pulled Da'Rick (where there existed a chance he was bound for us anyways), the luster of this "miracle salvation class" that Dooley pulled in such short time wouldnt exist. too many people are heralding this staff as the greatest group out there and they havent coached a game yet and none of their players have seen a down yet.

ive moved on from my man-crush on Kiffin, but i will not subject my loyalty blindly to this new staff until theyve had a little more time under their belt as some on here have. i cheer for the Vols, everyday, all day, but i do not have to feel secure with the staff.

Never really thought about it I guess. Even as bad as Fulmer was as a coach, his staff knew more than me. However, I did not like Fulmer and still think he was over rated. He can thank Cutt and Chavis for his success.

before you rebuke me, i am aware that we are in it with some major players...

Wright
Johnson
Arnett
Avery
Martin
DeBelle
Hayes

to name a few,

but idle interest does not mean they are going to be Vols in the end.

Chavis should have been gone before Sanders IMO.

I don't agree with that, but Sanders was definitely Fulmer's Scape Goat. Fulmer was really good at that. However, his luck ran out. Other than 3rd and Chavis, I thought Chavis did a good job. Enough to save Fulmers Arse. Johnny Majors actually said the same thing.

I most definitely have doubt about those guys we took in the '10 class, but we had to get bodies. What would you have done? Not signed anybody haha?

on the bolded statements:

- it will not go on throughout the entire year. Kiffin didn't get a big commit until Ambles committed in late July and that was only after USC, UF, UGA, and Auburn told him to GTFO.

- you have absolutely no idea if it's too early to be taking commits like this. given the staff's EXCELLENT record of coaching TEs, I will take their evaluation. they have too much experience and success with TEs to be 2nd guessed by message board experts.

- if you have been following recruiting over the past couple of months, you will notice that this staff appears to be great evaluators of talent. it seems like every kid they offer has no offers, then a couple weeks later, UF, Bama, UF, and USC roll in with offers. nbut for some unknown reason, some people don't pay attention to that. if you need proof, i will gladly name off a bunch of they guys they offered before the others.

- i have not seen one person herald this staff as the best out there

Not really. There are very few TEs that are ready to play from day one. Power has 2 to play 2. Look at Tennessee's depth chart after Stocker. There are literally no big bodied TEs.

Bartholomew is a decent athlete but he's not a prototype TE.

Power was signed strictly for his ability to be college ready from the day he stepped on campus. A mediocre TE is better than none at all.

I'm in no way a DD loyalist. However, taking a commitment from a JUCO TE that is an absolute area of need isn't going to make me think less of him.

I did a search on a free USCjr board and found this...

"There were a few good plays here and there, but not nearly enough to give you an indication that the offense was coming around. Still as I said, there was a lot of action, but just not enough results. The offense kept trying to connect on the deeper range passes tonight, but only one of those many clicked. During the Skels, Stephen Garcia found Andrew Power who had beaten the deep coverage by a step or so, and yet again, Garcia launched a very nice pass that Powerbrought in. This was about 30-35 yards long and was definitely the best looking offensive play of the evening."

"Andrew Power continues to impress bringing down passes, and solidified his number two spot on the depth chart at TE."

Another thread said he got the "All-around award" for summer testing or something like that whatever that means.

I'll see what else I can find.
