'11 JUCO TE Andrew Power

not when Orgeron offered him. Nobody knew Bruce Irvin existed.

measureables is all Bruce Irvin had at that point.

This. I remember fans on VQ B****ing on Volquest when he committed. He was an unknown 0 star that ended up being a highly rated JUCO kid, just like this kid might.

Walk-on tight end who has worked his way up a spot on the second team as a redshirt freshman... good run blocker who showed signs of improving in the pass game.

Player Bio: Andrew Power - SOUTH CAROLINA GAMECOCKS

Here are some practice reports on him from last year when he was the #2 TE at USCjr as a redshirt freshman. He was beasting:
Of the Tight Ends, Wes had the one very bad play were he dropped the pass from Garcia, but he made a few shorter catches to redeem himself through the rest of the practice. He was not the most impressive TE tonight however. Andrew Power had a very good night catching pretty much everything in his direction. He was used mainly on the shorter, and out rotes off the bootleg action, but he didn't drop anything as the others in his squad did.

The play of walk-on TE Andrew Power during the spring made it easy for coaches to send McKnight back to defense. Power, a redshirt freshman from Myrtle Beach, was not on the pre-spring depth chart. Now he’s listed as the backup to starter Weslye Saunders.

Power made an early impression, and had a very good Spring workout. He came in as a walkon, and overall, matched Saunders ability in catching passes, and He actually looked better blocking than Saunders did. He came out of nowhere as a Walk On, but this guy showed some really nice ability this Spring. Definitely deserving of the two spot on the depth chart right now.

Power has great size for the position. 6'4 and in between 250-260. He's made some nice grabs in practice so far so I think he's impressing everyone. Justice has done well here and there and so has Triglia. Cliff will also get his work in at TE. It's starting to sound like the position will produce like J. Cook did last year

Even with that background info, taking this commit with the 4 yr Tight Ends still available befuddles me.

hypothetically, If we lose out on either Fulse, Clear or Rory because any of the trio feels we have too many bodies at the position, I would consider this a bad gamble

I sure hope Dooley did his homework on this kid and remembers he is coaching at Tennessee and not Louisiana Tech. Not second guessing the guy....but.......okay maybe I am :salute:

That's kinda how I feel too. I think he's a solid player, but it's still a questionable take at this point in time. JMO

If Rivera isn't good enough then you need someone who is ready to play immediately. HS TE's usually take time to either learn to block or be a college level receiver.

If he's already made the two deep on an SEC roster then he is probably a better bet than almost any HS TE out there.

We don't have a real shot at Fulse atm.

All signs point to Clear being here.

idngaf about Rory Anderson. He is a slower/less athletic/shorter/weaker Matt Milton. He would only be able to play a handful of snaps per game in obvious passing situations

How do you know we haven't lost on one or more of these guys already?

More outstanding recruiting. So much better than the old coach. Gives us something to look forward to for the next 4 years. The team should be rebuilt real soon.

The Saunders guy, who Power was outplaying in those practice reports, was a 4star out of high school and was 2 grades above Power at the time.

That's great news! CDD and staff are really busting it to get the players we need here ASAP. It sounds like we could have another Stocker on our hands.

He may have outplayed him in practice, but one of those players will be the best TE in the league in 2010, the other will be in his 3rd school in three years, with one BCS offer in hand. You can figure out which is which.

This was a tough sell.
